Last week during Climate Week NYC, we brought together utility leaders from across the country for our National Public Utilities Council's Utility Solutions Forum. The day was a powerful reminder that the future of energy will be defined by the conversations happening in rooms like this. The forum wasn’t just another event, it was a place for candid dialogue and practical strategies to navigate the countdown to 2030. One of the most powerful calls to action came from Melissa Banks (Dose), Utility Advocacy Leader at Trane Technologies. She spoke on the need to conquer decarbonization and energy affordability together and made an urgent plea for deeper collaboration. As she said, "If we can't decarbonize in this space [the energy sector], we can't decarbonize anywhere else... Utilities, join forces with every player here. We need you to do this." Melissa’s message perfectly captured the spirit of the day. A huge thank you to her and all our partners for making the forum so impactful. She unveiled the Fall 2025 Decarbonization Report, grounding the conversation in fresh data, personal stories, and candid perspectives on the urgent road to 2030. To bring the data to life, Denise invited Shaun A. Hoyte (Con Edison) and Christy Clark (DTE Energy) to join her on stage for a rapid-fire discussion, sharing unfiltered perspectives on the sector’s biggest challenges and opportunities. One topic I heard about a lot at #ClimateWeekNYC? Adaptation & resilience. While #decarbonization and #mitigation efforts remain central to #sustainability strategies, I heard rising acknowledgment that the world is going to overshoot the #ParisAgreement goal of limiting global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius. This is leading to #pragmatic discussions that recognize the world’s response to #climate change also needs to include #investment in #adaptation and #resilience efforts.
