The latest S&P Global Sustainability Quarterly features a new analysis from our climate scientists and economists that suggests the world should prepare for adapting to 2.3 degrees C of global warming. Investment in adaptation and resilience to climate physical risks will be central to limiting the potential costs of a warmer world. It also brings economic advantages over time, such as lower insurance costs and increased agricultural output. It can also bring socio-environmental benefits, such as reduced mortality rates and improved flood defenses (for example through mangroves). Seeking to address the complexities of modern energy markets, there are three new scenarios—Adaptation, Fracture, and Renaissance—alongside updates to the CI Base Case and Net-Zero 2050 outlook.
