🌍✨ Gratitude for Global Leadership in Action ✨🌍 We are deeply grateful to Kavita Ramdas for hosting the Global Leadership Forum Masterclass at #FeministFunded25. Her session on Cultural Competence in Fundraising offered profound lessons on navigating philanthropy across cultures and geographies, while centering the lived experiences of communities most impacted by inequity. This powerful conversation was enriched by the presence of our GLF leaders: Dr. Stellah Bosire, Dr. Tlaleng Mofokeng, Dr. Kakenya Ntaiya, and S. Mona Sinha — each bringing visionary leadership and bold commitment to advancing gender justice worldwide. Thank you, Kavita, for your wisdom, and thank you to our GLF leaders for embodying feminist leadership that transforms systems and sustains movements. #GlobalLeadershipForum #FeministPhilanthropy #GenderJustice #Leadership

Last week, multiple members of our team had the opportunity to attend Women's Funding Network's Feminist Funded 2025! 🌟 This global conference in Washington, DC brought together philanthropic leaders, funders, and grantee partners who are working together to create a more just, equitable, and safer world for all. Our President & CEO Renee Ferrufino facilitated the Get Off Your Assets panel with Tracy Gray, Stephanie Green, and Ana Oliveira at the conference. The panel explored what foundations can do with assets, donor-advised funds, grantmaking, and impact investing to address the needs presented in our new reality. Thank you to the Women’s Funding Network for a powerful and impactful Feminist Funded 2025! 💜💫

✨ Last week I had the opportunity to attend Women's Funding Network Feminist Funded convening in Washington DC where I joined an incredible community of funders, activists, and movement leaders As the CEO of Vitala Global Foundation, I felt deeply aligned with the conversations on what feminist funding really means. The message was clear: liberation is collective. It’s not only about the dollars—it’s about building durable relationships, sustaining care, and resourcing joy alongside movements. Some reflections I’m bringing into my own work: 💡 Relationships are infrastructure—trust and solidarity are as critical as financial capital. 💡 Unity does not mean uniformity—our differences strengthen us. 💡 Self-care is a movement strategy—sustainability matters as much as impact. 💡 Funders and organizations must co-create—this is about partnership, not transactions. 💡 Investing in the next generation is non-negotiable—sharing power and leadership is key. 💡 Stay the Course - stay the course with a shared direction of liberation despite differences within our movement. At Vitala, we are working to embody these principles as we scale Aya to support women and girls navigating reproductive health journeys in some of the most restrictive and challenging contexts. These learnings are both a challenge and an invitation to keep aligning philanthropy with the lived realities of those we serve. I left Washington inspired, humbled, and recommitted to pushing for feminist funding that happens at the speed of trust. 🌱 And of course - it brought me a lot of joy to be amongst a lot of amazing, inspiring humans I deeply admire! Have you seen the movie Elemental? In it, air, water, and fire come to life as the characters in a diverse community. The film’s creator, who grew up in the Bronx, was inspired by the periodic table of elements, so he imagined it as apartment complexes, with people stacked on top of one another. Each block represented a different culture: copper living peacefully next to zinc, but maybe don’t sit too close to helium…they’re a little gassy. :) That way of looking at the world, through patterns and relationships, is a good reminder for how we can look at data. A horizontal bar chart isn’t just a chart; it’s a kitchen table. The longer the bar, the longer the table, with more people gathered around it. And when we bring in intersectional state-level data, it’s like pulling up even more chairs. Because behind every statistic is a person. If the data leaves her out, the solutions will too. And if our data doesn’t tell our stories, the policies won’t work for us. That’s why data matters, and why we’ve turned to Institute for Women's Policy Research ‘s State Policy Action Lab (State PAL). State PAL connects research to policy, driving evidence-informed legislation to advance women across all 50 states and Washington, DC.: https://lnkd.in/g2cb9KKp Mahalo to Shannon Emmett, MPP and Emily Maistrellis at IWPR for inviting us to join their Women's Funding Network panel, Partnering to Advance Data-driven State Policy Change for Gender Justice, and talk about data in Hawaiʻi. We also learned so much from the brilliant co-panelists, Anna Rose Benson and Lyric Thompson #data

Wow! #FeministFunded2025 was just what I needed as I return to work and get up to speed. I'm taking that positive energy and inspiration with me, as I think through how to tackle the countless challenges ahead. One of my favorite takeaways: Yes, we are in a crisis moment, but what a privilege and honor it is that we get to do this work at a time when it is REALLY needed. This is a moment for visionaries. It is time to create the future! Other morsels of motivation I am holding onto: 🌟 Relationships as infrastructure. I love this! Relationships that we nurture cannot be easily undone. Even if resourcing looks different, long-term and trust-based relationships are the infrastructure we need to move forward. 🌟 Embracing complexity. There is not one winning strategy. We need a variety of methods and approaches. 🌟 Calling in. We are not canceling ourselves. Let's embrace differences and move together - perhaps not toward one singular goal, but in the same direction. 🌟 We might be ready to talk about boards?? At a minimum, we recognize that the decision-makers are often not in these spaces with us. We need to strengthen our skills to bring these folks along. 🌟 Courage in contagious. Let's think about what it means to be courageous in our own spheres. 🌟 Philanthropy needs to fund like it wants to win. Full stop. With gratitude to Women's Funding Network and all the speakers for a fantastic event!
Day 1 of #FeministFunded25 was filled with energy, connection, and vision. From dynamic conversations on feminist futures and leadership to the 40th Anniversary Gala, attendees came together across movements, generations, and geographies to share strategies and imagine what’s possible. The day made clear WFN’s power as a convener and connector. We create spaces where ideas turn into collective action. #WFN40 #FeministPhilanthropy #CollectivePower

On September 10th and 11th, MADRE joined feminist leaders from across the country in Washington, DC, to build a human rights mandate for peace, diplomacy, and gender justice. Hosted by the Women's Funding Network, #FeministFunded2025 is an opportunity to pool resources and unite to inspire, connect, and accelerate solutions for a more just, equitable, and safer world for all. During this event, MADRE led an advocacy training and a Senate briefing, in addition to hosting our “Peace is Local” panel, which emphasized the importance of incorporating feminist values into foreign policy. Feminists know that we are stronger together. Thank you, Women Cross DMZ, Fondo Semillas, The New York Women's Foundation, and The Alliance for Diplomacy and Justice, for joining us at Feminist Funded 2025, and for your tireless work to build a more just world.
