Over the past few years, I’ve been to countless events, spoken to thousands of people, and listened to endless conversations about the same issue: Human Capital Deficit and Talent. Everyone agrees we need to attract the next generation into digital infrastructure. Yet when I look at the data, the reality hits hard. Our workforce isn’t getting younger — it’s getting older. That’s not a pipeline problem. That’s an action problem. For me, this isn’t just about data centers or technology. It’s about people. The students who never knew this industry existed. The engineers who want to grow but can’t see a clear path forward. All of us who’ve built our careers in this space and feel a responsibility to leave it stronger than we found it. That’s why we started Nomad Futurist: to inspire, educate, and open doors for the next generation & for those who don’t yet know these opportunities exist. To show young people that the technology powering our digital world needs them. I’m deeply grateful to everyone who has supported this journey so far. Yesterday I had the privilege of speaking to 150 MSc Climate Change, Management & Finance students at Imperial College London on “Careers with Consequences,” representing the Nomad Futurist Foundation – a non-profit dedicated to inspiring the next generation of talent to join the world of digital infrastructure. This industry – the hidden backbone of the internet, cloud and AI – is growing at an extraordinary pace. But it faces urgent challenges: power demand, sustainability, and above all a shortage of new talent. The students were highly engaged, curious and motivated – exactly the kind of people this sector needs to step up and shape the future.
