From a small town in rural Colorado to the Future of Life Sciences Award, Maria Sears proves innovation can come from anywhere. As a high school student, Maria designed and coded a wearable device to monitor pulmonary function, inspired by her own asthma and her family’s health challenges. With limited resources but unlimited determination, she built something that could help patients, especially in rural communities, catch warning signs before they become emergencies. We’re proud to honor Maria and celebrate the next generation of life sciences innovators through the Colorado BioScience Institute’s Classroom programs.
