Grateful to BBC News for spotlighting our work on progesterone-#Callavid, our novel drug delivery technology aimed at helping treat threatened miscarriage. "The current delivery method can leak and cost the [British economy and] NHS up to £236m per year, health economists say. University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire (UHCW) NHS Trust is leading the trial and said more than 150,000 women in the UK could be eligible for prescriptions of progesterone." We're proud to be working on a solution with the potential for meaningful impact in #womenshealth Article here: https://lnkd.in/eYXbbnv2 #womenshealth #healthcareinnovation #femtech #bthechange #miscarriagesupport #ivfsupport #NIHRfunded #callavid #drugdelivery
About us
Calla Lily Clinical Care is a British medical device startup developing a leak-free, convenient and dosage-confident delivery platform for vaginally-delivered drugs. We are initially focused on delivering progesterone for miscarriage prevention and IVF, where there is an unmet need for a patient-friendlier means of drug administration during an already stressful fertility journey. Progesterone prescriptions have significantly increased following the Nov 2021 update to internationally-renowned NICE's guidance on miscarriages. Subsequent applications include treatments focused on menopause and on the vaginal microbiome. Our patented technology has received FDA clearance and was named one of TIME magazine’s Best Inventions of the Year.

Honoured to be speaking at the 34th Singapore Pharmacy Congress 🇸🇬 to share the development journey and translational strategy behind our #Callavid vaginal drug delivery platform. Calla Lily Clinical Care is focused on advancing a #patientcentric solution that delivers targeted and user-friendly therapies for conditions with high unmet clinical need. I’ll be sharing our initial use cases, including support for IVF and prevention of threatened miscarriage, along with the broader pipeline potential - spanning hormonal therapies, biotherapeutics, and anti-infectives. Grateful to Professor Matthias G. Wacker of National University of Singapore and the #SPC25 steering committee for the opportunity to join esteemed fellow panellists (Sui Yung Chan, Ayca Altay Benetti, PhD, Charles Stacey) working at the forefront of pharmaceutical innovation and #womenshealth. Last week was a busy one with LSI Europe and an invitation to join the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Global Well event in London. I had the true honor having lunch with Vice Chancellor Michael Andreasen the day before. We had a really good giggle and plotted ways to bring #Callavid and our work at Calla Lily Clinical Care to Chapel Hill. Or maybe an Unstable Vitals episode filmed on campus with my fellow UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School alum, Adam Brown, MD MBA. The following evening we were treated to dinner and a fireside chat with Chancellor Lee Roberts who shared his vision for how UNC can continue to grow and thrive in this uncertain world. There is something very special about being a Tar Heel! #founderlife

It’s been a superb 2 days in Munich at the office overlooking the alps of Essity - one of the world’s leading health and hygiene companies 🇸🇪. Beyond the stunning views, it was very powerful and poignant to get a deep dive into how a $15B+ revenue company truly thinks about and integrates #innovation. Some thoughts: 💥 Breaking Taboos with Courage💥 It was deeply meaningful to meet the people behind one of the most groundbreaking campaigns I’ve ever seen: Essity’s #BloodNormal. Back when we were solely focused on the consumer Tampliner® application of our technology, that campaign set the gold standard: bold, unapologetic, and necessary. Even now, the original ad still gives me inspired chills (link in comments). Such a powerful reminder of how impactful it is when companies choose to lead with #courage. 💥 Not Just Talking the Talk on #womenshealth 💥 It was genuinely inspiring to see Essity move beyond lip service when it comes to women’s health and menopause. Their efforts go far beyond traditional late-stage M&A- including strategic collaborations with startups, and to Essity’s commitment and investment with Issviva, their creation of an independent in-house menopause startup. 💥 Learning from the Professionals 💥 Spending time with Essity experts and senior leaders was so insightful. There were too many takeaways to list, but all the learnings lead to one big reminder: startups don’t own the monopoly on speed, disruption, or collaborative culture. These two days showed how much we can learn from each other, and how innovation thrives in unexpected places. Thanks to Volker Zöller, Kai Thornagel, Gael De Talhouet, Tilda Selemark, Stacey van Hooven, Joanna Campillo, Duncan Phillips, Zhanna Gorovaya, Linda Andén-Pantera for such a thoughtful and energising experience. #bthechange #womenshealth #medtech #tampliner Callaly #callavid

The financing environment remains difficult for solutions addressing women’s health, Lara Zibners MD MMEd MBA, co-founder and chair of Calla Lily Clinical Care., told BioWorld. “Until I entered this space, I've never spoken to an investor in any other area who said ‘I need to go home and ask my wife’,” she said on the sidelines of the LSI conference in London. 🙏 Pregnancy loss affects up to 25% of all pregnancies, yet it remains one of the most overlooked areas of women's health innovation. Despite affecting millions globally, the field has been characterized by long wait times, limited treatment options, and persistent stigmatization. Now, a new generation of entrepreneurs is developing solutions across the pregnancy loss journey. Companies like Fertia Health GmbH are providing integrated digital platforms combining medical expertise with psychological support, while Sibyl offers AI-powered emotional support with 24/7 guidance. Calla Lily Clinical Care is developing a device addressing progesterone leakage during threatened miscarriage treatment. 💬 "There's a fundamental misunderstanding that recurrent pregnancy loss is solely a fertility issue. Investment in improved pregnancy loss care would generate significant long-term benefits for individuals and society alike." Being "common" doesn't make it "okay." Miscarriage can be devastating and yet--for some--there is something we can do about it. I would love to see the funding get behind the science so we can. #bthechange #miscarriage #Callavid #womenshealth
