CyberTruck Hardware Reverse Engineering (CTHWRE) Class

Started in 2017 by Russ Bielawski and Bill Hass, this HW RE course is designed to teach basic hardware reversing skills to the students at the CyberTruck Challenge.

This is the public facing repository for the hardware reverse engineering class materials.

Note: To find prior year's resources, navigate to the relevant git branch (e.g. git checkout cybertruck_2017)

CyberTruck 2025, 2024, & 2023 and CyberDrone 2024

Instructor: Bill Hass

Target: PeopleNet G3 OBC

Outcome: Teach basic HW RE from metal encased TCU to dumping firmware via JTAG. Introduce basic tools skills, capture serial boot logs, overcome JTAG protections, and extract firmware via JTAG.

CyberTruck 2019 & 2021

Instructor: Bill Hass

Target: Smart Sensor Simulator Daughter Board

Outcome: Teach basic HW RE tools skills; capture serial boot logs; extract firmware via ICSP.

CyberTruck 2017

Instructor: Russ Bielawski & Bill Hass

Outcome: Teach basic HW RE tools skills; capture serial boot logs; extract firmware and perform interactive debugging via JTAG.
