Phoenix Energy Services Inc. is proud to announce this month's employee spotlight to Jacob Van Volkenburg from our Fort St. John office! “Jacob, my electrical apprentice who has been an integral part of our team for just over a year, consistently demonstrates exceptional dedication and a strong work ethic. His punctuality and eagerness to gain new skills and knowledge are exemplary, making him a highly valuable asset to our operations. Beyond his primary apprenticeship duties, Jacob actively contributes to our safety division, assisting with the intricate rigging in of OTIS systems and expertly handling various trouble calls. His comprehensive contributions and positive demeaner make him an outstanding member of our team.” – Jorey Ziegeman Here was out Q&A with Jacob this past week: What inspired you to join Phoenix Energy, and how has your journey with the company been so far? I wanted to learn about electrical and the oil & gas industry in general. I met Jorey at the FSJ job fair, and it seemed to me like Phoenix was one of the most professional companies there. I feel like joining Phoenix has been one of the best career decisions I've made. From the first day, there was so much cool stuff to do and learn. Plus, everyone I've met has been a great teacher and always willing to explain how to do something. How do you stay motivated and continue to develop your skills in your position? One of the biggest motivations for me is that there is still a mountain of skills to learn, and the skills I already have can be refined. I feel like in some jobs, you can become a master in a few months, but with E&I, even after 1 and a half years, there is still room to improve on the basics like conduit, strut, tubing, etc. What advice would you give to someone interested in pursuing a career in the energy industry? I would say, getting into industrial E&I is one of the best decisions you can make if you are the type of person who likes to tackle big obstacles. As for on the job, always be willing to try things you don't know, and be eager to take on jobs and help out. What are your favourite activities or hobbies outside of work? I bike around the trails near and in Fort St. John, great for keeping active and building up my endurance. Cooking, one of my favourite things to make is pizza from scratch. I make the dough from flour and yeast myself, and the sauce out of tomato paste and spices, it usually turns out really good.
