Position Description

Are you a detail-oriented and innovative Patent Agent? Join Applied Medical and play a vital role in protecting and advancing groundbreaking medical device technologies. For over 35 years, we have been at the forefront of developing and manufacturing advanced surgical innovations. As a Patent Agent, you will work onsite at our global headquarters, collaborating with inventors, drafting and prosecuting patents in the U.S. and abroad, and contributing to strategic portfolio development. Key Responsibilities:

  • Inventor Collaboration and Mentorship: Partner with inventors to identify and document new ideas, providing guidance that ensures their innovations are accurately captured and protected.
  • Patent Drafting and Prosecution: Independently draft and prosecute patent applications in both U.S. and international jurisdictions with precision and efficiency.
  • Strategic Portfolio Development: Support the creation and execution of patent portfolio strategies by conducting in-depth technical and legal research and analysis.
  • Intellectual Property Evaluation: Assist in assessing invention disclosures, determining patentability, and strengthening Applied Medical’s competitive edge through strong IP protection.

Position Requirements

  • Active registration with the USPTO and a proven, demonstrable track record in patent preparation and prosecution.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, or Biomedical Engineering.
  • Three or more years of hands-on experience in patent drafting and prosecution.
  • Excellent administrative, oral, and written communication skills, with a strong ability to explain complex concepts clearly.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, ensuring accuracy and consistency in all patent-related work.
  • Ability to work in a highly collaborative, cross-functional environment that requires effective teamwork.

Preferred

  • Prior engineering experience in a relevant discipline, providing valuable technical insight into invention evaluation and patent drafting.
