Director of Portfolio Operations / Boston Based Private Equity Firm
A Boston-based PE firm is seeking a Director of Portfolio Operations to lead key workflows related to quarterly valuations, fund modeling, and internal/external reporting. Reporting to senior leadership, the Director will play a critical role in ensuring the integrity and insightfulness of portfolio analytics, while providing leverage across operational, IR, and finance functions.
Position Summary
The Director of Portfolio Operations will lead key workflows related to quarterly valuations, fund modeling, and internal/external reporting.
Candidate Experience
10–15+ years of experience in private equity, valuation advisory, or portfolio analytics
Demonstrated ability to own or lead quarterly valuation processes, especially for bespoke or illiquid assets
Experience with internal fund modeling, quarterly reporting, and audit support
Strong fluency in financial modeling, valuation techniques (DCF, comps, precedent transactions), and fund-level return metrics
Ability to collaborate across deal teams, IR, and accounting; comfort critiquing deal assumptions and owning valuation narratives
Track record of hands-on execution (building models, writing memos, editing decks)
Must be based in Boston or willing to relocate
Key Responsibilities
Valuation & Performance Analytics
Lead the firm’s quarterly valuation cycle, including model review, bridge narrative development, and audit preparation
Serve as a key interface with deal teams to validate assumptions and stress-test models
Write and produce the firm’s quarterly valuation memo, incorporating portfolio trends, market dynamics, and fund-level performance
Partner with external auditors and internal teams to manage year-end valuation audits
Fund Modeling & Liquidity Management
Maintain and enhance fund-level financial models and liquidity projections
Oversee portfolio workbook and ensure consistency across asset-level inputs and fund-level outputs
Coordinate sub-line management and capital forecasting in collaboration with finance and legal
Investor Reporting & IR Support
Support investor relations team with portfolio data, fund performance metrics, and LP communications
Participate in the preparation and execution of LP calls, quarterly reporting cycles, and strategic investor dialogues
Contribute to messaging alignment across performance, valuation, and portfolio positioning
Strategic Contribution
Provide leverage to senior leadership by enhancing internal visibility into portfolio drivers and risks
Participate in ad hoc projects tied to deal exits, liquidity planning, and co-investment support
