Vice President of Engineering and Operations

3DEO is seeking a highly technical, hands-on leader to oversee both Engineering (R&D) and Manufacturing. This role is critical to executing our product and production roadmaps — from next-generation printer development to factory operations. You’ll be responsible for planning and executing across the full lifecycle: designing machines and processes, scaling production, and ensuring we deliver consistent, high-quality parts at speed.

This role requires someone who can think strategically and operate tactically. We’re a small team; leaders at 3DEO roll up their sleeves. You’ll collaborate closely with our executive team, while managing and mentoring cross-functional teams across R&D, software engineering, systems integration, and production.

Essential Functions:

• Lead and manage the Engineering (R&D) and Manufacturing teams, including machine development, systems engineering, and factory operations
• Own execution of our roadmaps — from prototyping and integration to manufacturing readiness
• Develop and implement processes for repeatable, scalable, high-yield production
• Translate business priorities into technical plans, development timelines, and operational targets
• Hire, manage, and mentor a high-performing technical team; foster a culture of ownership and excellence
• Partner with the CTO and CEO to align technical strategy with business goals
• Work cross-functionally to ensure effective collaboration between engineering, manufacturing, and commercial functions
• Identify bottlenecks and implement improvements across engineering, assembly, test, and production

Required Qualifications:

• 15+ years of progressive experience in engineering, manufacturing, or industrial technology environments, including at least 5 years in a senior leadership role
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing, or related technical field required; Master’s degree or MBA preferred
• Demonstrated success leading multidisciplinary teams in a hands-on, high-accountability setting
• Strong technical background in mechanical systems, automation, robotics, or additive manufacturing
• Deep experience with product development, prototyping, and transitioning designs into scalable production environments
• Skilled in project planning, execution, and cross-functional coordination
• Familiarity with quality systems, test protocols, and production metrics
• Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, resource-constrained startup environment
• Full-time, on-site presence required (Torrance, CA)

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience in early-stage or growth-stage hardware or industrial companies
• Background in machine design, robotics, or high-precision manufacturing systems
• Familiarity with quality systems, test protocols, and production metrics

Physical Requirements:

• Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
• Ability to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds
• Must be able to navigate a manufacturing floor, including standing, walking, and working around machinery
• Ability to wear appropriate PPE and comply with all safety protocols in an industrial setting
