Big recap from The Drop last week! 💧 Our team member Pedro Garcia was at this unique event in Malmo exchanging insights and building connections in decarbonization matters, from data centers to building materials. Our highlight of the event was the cement roundtable co-hosted by two true cement enthusiasts: Nicole Florack from 2150 and our own Pedro Garcia. The discussion gathered founders, investors, and incumbents at the forefront of the green cement transition. 🌍 We discussed the VC case for investing in decarbonization solutions, taking that: 💰 There are multiple angles through which new solutions can be cost-competitive versus portland cement, especially when local shortages cause price imbalances that create opportunities for startups. 🤝 Startups have advantages beyond unique IP, such as agility in deployment strategy and positioning beyond a commodity. These qualities are complimentary to the scale and reach of cement incumbents, creating a win-win for collaboration. 🚀 The market opportunity is huge if founders can navigate capex and codes. Strategic partnerships early-on can help them lift-off to monetization, one of the biggest challenges for startups in this space. It was great to have the input from experts such as Bengt Steinbrecher, Jason Mühleck, Lucas de Gelder, P.Eng., Gurinder Nagra, Quentin Philippe, Caroline Thaler, Nare Janvelyan, PhD, Miguel Barbera, Burhanuddin Pisavadi, Christopher Mills and the many others who participated.
