According to a new study by Fractl, 1 in 5 GenAI users believe romantic love between humans and AI can be real, and 3% already use their chatbot as a romantic partner. Thriveworks clinician Alexandra Cromer spoke to Newsweek about why so many people believe these relationships are real and the long-term implications. "While we are in no way shaming people for seeking romantic love and connection, many people fail to understand that AI is not 'sentient' and the way it talks and responds to you is solely based on the information you give it. A 'real' romantic relationship between two people involves two people who are different and autonomous; they're not controlled or heavily influenced by each other and make an active choice to be committed together." Could you be scrolling your way into the “Seasonal Sads”? As we prepare for the fall, with its shorter days and cooler temps, people tend to spend more time scrolling social media which can amplify the symptoms of Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD). Thriveworks clinician Dayton Olsen recently spoke to WDBJ 7 TV about combating the onset of SAD including consistent sleep, planned outdoor time and meaningful connections over social media scrolling which can stir loneliness, comparison, and negative emotions. Speaking up in the boardroom. Networking at conferences. Presenting to clients. For professionals with social anxiety, these moments can feel overwhelming—and well-meaning phrases like “just relax” or “you’re overreacting” don’t help. They often minimize the experience and increase self-doubt. Thriveworks clinician Whitney McSparran recently spoke with TIME about the phrases that do help friends or team members experiencing social anxiety. Check out her advice here: https://lnkd.in/g64Xs23z

llinois recently became the third state—joining Utah and Nevada—to ban the use of AI in therapy. The rollout of these new regulations underscores the need to implement new technologies thoughtfully, with a focus on the people it impacts most: clinicians and clients. In a recent interview with WBBM | CBS Chicago, Thriveworks clinician Christina Geiselhart highlighted the importance of keeping therapy human-centric, while pointing to areas where AI can still play a supportive role (like administrative tasks that ease clinician burden). Feel like you're hearing "therapy words" (think gaslighting, triggered and toxic) more in everyday situations, including in the workplace? You're not alone. Recent research from Thriveworks reveals a staggering 95% of Americans encounter therapy-related terms in daily life. While greater awareness of these terms can contribute to reduced stigma around mental health, unfortunately, these popularized terms aren't always being used correctly. Check out the full results of this study in our latest (link in comments!), and tell us below which terms you've heard over or misused.
