Promoting environmental stewardship through recreation and education in a natural resources-based park system!

About us

Three Rivers Park District is a park system in the west suburban Minneapolis/St. Paul metro area of Minnesota. We manage almost 27,000 acres of park reserves, regional parks, regional trails, and special-use facilities. The name "Three Rivers" comes from our parks' geography, situated within the watersheds that flow into three significant rivers to this region: the Mississippi, the Minnesota and the Crow. The mission of Three Rivers Park District is to promote environmental stewardship through recreation and education in a natural resources-based park system. through recreation and education in a natural resources-based park system. With facilities for every season, including picnicking, swimming, play areas, boating, fishing, downhill skiing, snowboarding, golfing, camping and sledding, Three Rivers Parks is the place for recreation, play and relaxation. We have developed an extensive trail system for hiking, biking, in-line skating, horseback riding, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. We also offer program sites for nature, recreation, historic, and farm education. The Park District serves 7 million park guests per year.

Updates

  • This year our Three Rivers’ Community Engagement team is excited to welcome new Community Liaisons specifically focused on expanding engagement with Latino and Spanish-speaking community members thanks to an Equity Grant provided by the Metropolitan Council of the Twin Cities! The grant-funded project aims to expand engagement efforts and resources targeting Latino and Spanish-speaking community members and partners across the Park District. By employing additional Spanish-speaking staff, specifically part-time Community Liaisons who focus on engagement within targeted geographic regions, this initiative grows culturally relevant programs and events hosted by bilingual staff, increases translated materials, and expands staff capacity to respond to Spanish inquiries via email and phone by building upon and expanding community partnerships, removing language barriers, and respecting and celebrating Hispanic culture and traditions. Throughout the project Community Liaisons will work with the community by: hosting camping engagements, facilitating Learn to Ride and other bike engagements, distributing park information, inviting and welcoming families, working with program center staff to offer bilingual and Spanish-language programs, and more! To assist in executing this project, we are thrilled to welcome two new Community Liaison roles, one focused on building relationships in the Northwest region and one in the Southwest metro. By being active in two different regions, Three Rivers can focus on supporting families in building close connections to the parks that are geographically closest to them, knowing that folks will be more likely to become regular park users if the park is close, easy and accessible. These areas specifically have existing partners and connections in them, while also having room to grow/expand!

  • At Gale Woods Farm we have a dedicated team of superstar volunteers who are part of our fiber arts program, processing wool and creating fiber products for the Farm Store. The purpose of the Gale Woods fiber arts program is to provide opportunities for all ages and skill levels to experience and learn about the process of wool from fleece to final product. Our goals are to produce fiber for use in Gale Woods programs and for sale in their store while building a community of fiber volunteers. Products for sale include raw fleece, undyed and dyed roving, natural colored yarn, a variety of kits and finished products. Volunteers assist in all facets of wool processing - skirting, picking, washing, dyeing and carding wool. They help prep wool for programming and store sales along with making many of the wet felted products sold in the store. We're always delighted to have new folks join the team for scheduled fiber volunteer workdays. To learn more and start volunteering, contact our Program Coordinator Andi Anderson at Andi.Anderson@ThreeRiversParks.org.
