Automating Healthcare Operations: Medallion’s Derek Lo with RJ Lumba Every day, providers lose weeks waiting on credentialing, licensing, and enrollment. Medallion compresses that into days. Its platform automates the operational workflows behind healthcare delivery—work that once consumed full teams and mountains of paperwork. Derek Lo, who built and sold his first startup before age 25, launched Medallion in 2020 to turn that bottleneck into a growth lever. Since then, the company has saved over 500,000 hours of administrative work for hundreds of organizations, from digital health pioneers to major hospital systems, while cutting operating costs in half. With $130 million raised including a fresh $43 million round led by Acrew Capital, Medallion is scaling the infrastructure that lets healthcare organizations expand faster, see patients sooner, and focus on care over compliance. Backed By Larry Ellison, Imagene AI Is Making Precision Oncology More Precise Precision oncology just got more precise. Tel Aviv-based Imagene AI has teamed up with Sheba Medical Center to merge Sheba’s extensive patient datasets, including digitized pathology slides, genomic information, and longitudinal clinical records, with Imagene AI’s Cross-Modality Intelligence Engine. And that’s just the beginning. In July, the company raised $25 billion in Series B funding led by none other than Oracle Chief Executive Officer and investing legend Larry Ellison to advance its multi-modal digital pathology foundation models for precision medicine. Founded in 2020 by CEO Dean Bitan, Jonathan Zalach and Shahar Porat, Imagene’s team is split between Israel and the United States – fitting for a company that’s solving problems that necessarily cross borders. It’s this type of focus that prompted one analyst to declare Imagene was ready to “dominate” precision oncology as part of a “portfolio of the future.” Which means the company is living up to its mission to “help create a clearer and more personalized journey for patients and their loved ones, in cancer and beyond.” Back at Sheba Medical Center, where Imagene initially focused on lung cancer, the collaboration has expanded to a cross-cancer platform, enabling independent analysis of complex datasets and the development of predictive models across multiple cancer types. Professor Iris Barshack, Head of the Pathology Institute at Sheba, said that Imagene “empowers our pathologists and care teams to analyze multimodal data, independently develop AI applications, and move faster from hypothesis to validated signal.” But Sheba’s not the only medical center being empowered. Imagene AI’s data infrastructure already integrates more than 3.5 million digitized pathology slides alongside diverse omics and clinical data, which Bitan says is the key to bring “precision oncology closer to patients.” In both hemispheres.

High-Precision Cell Therapy: Orca Bio’s Nathaniel Fernhoff with RJ Lumba Every stem cell transplant today is a balancing act: cure the cancer, but risk life-threatening complications. Orca Bio believes patients shouldn’t have to make that tradeoff. CEO and Co-Founder Nathaniel Fernhoff and his team have developed a manufacturing platform that builds cell therapies at single-cell precision. Their investigational products, Orca-T and Orca-Q, aim to deliver the curative potential of transplants without the burden of chronic graft-versus-host disease and other complications. Following the completion of its pivotal trial, Orca Bio is preparing to bring its first therapy to regulators this year. Roughly 50,000 Americans are diagnosed annually with blood cancers that could benefit from a safer approach—and future applications in autoimmune disease could extend the impact to tens of thousands more. Precision is turning possibility into practice, and Orca Bio is setting the pace.
