Updates

  • We are proud that our own Harvey Berger (Chairman and CEO) will bring his decades of executive and board experience to such an important conversation tackling the challenges and opportunities of this moment.

  • Creating relevant models to test therapeutic hypotheses in human disease biology is a heavy lift. Luckily, Zvi Cramer is a powerlifter in his spare time. He's not one to flex, but it's apparent to all that both his vocation and hobby have forged an impressive mental fortitude.

  • Arena BioWorks welcomes Harvey Berger, M.D., as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. Together with Founder and Chief Scientific Officer Stuart L. Schreiber, Ph.D., Harvey will lead our mission to transform how new medicines are discovered and developed; his broad experience in biotechnology R&D, biopharma operations, and company formation will guide our accelerated phase of value creation. Arena has built an innovative and durable discovery engine that unites AI-enabled approaches to human biology and differentiated technologies all under one roof. This disease- and modality-agnostic approach enables us to apply the right tools to each challenge and design best-in-class medicines for patients in need of new therapeutic options.   Learn more about Arena here: https://bit.ly/4g955lg

  • Nasser Hashemi, machine learning specialist and wildlife photographer, knows that success takes keen observation, the right tools, a lot of patience, and a little luck. This photo he captured of a crane folded into the shape of a heart hangs outside of our board room as a reminder that the answers are hidden in plain sight, if we know how to look for them.

  • We are delighted to see our own Stuart Schreiber recognized for his pioneering work in chemical biology, which has yielded decades of impact and much more to come. Congrats Stuart and Dr. Peter G. Schultz on receiving the prestigious Welch Award!

The Welch Foundation is pleased to announce the 2025 Welch Award in Chemistry recipients: Dr. Stuart L. Schreiber of Harvard University and Arena BioWorks, and Dr. Peter G. Schultz of Scripps Research. Both are being recognized for their groundbreaking contributions to the field of chemical biology. Dr. Schreiber is honored for his profound discoveries using chemical probes to understand the chemical machinery of the cell and for developing therapies based on this knowledge. Dr. Schultz is recognized for his pioneering contributions to creating new letters in the alphabet of life, and the leveraging of chemical diversity to discover novel therapeutics and materials. Each will receive a $500,000 award this October in recognition of their lasting impact in the field of chemistry. Learn more about their work and the award at  https://lnkd.in/dAqKjVbv

  • Corrie doesn’t consider herself artistically creative, insisting that crocheting is just a way to pass time on her long train ride to lab every day. But we know that we are lucky to have someone with the nimbleness of mind and fingers to adapt when an octopus really wants to be a squid, the inventiveness to innovate a split-thread method of miniaturization, and the patience to troubleshoot all of the inevitable challenges along the way.

  • We love to spotlight those team members with roles whose visibility runs counter to their success. The smoother the lab runs, the easier it is to forget that people like Suzannah, with her no-nonsense, can-do demeanor, are the backbone of everything we are doing here.

  • Congratulations to the winners of the Stuart L. Schreiber Prize in Scientific Excellence for Graduate Studies presented at the Broad Institute annual retreat! Jiaqi Zhang (top) won for outstanding work on causal inference AI and Smriti Pandey (bottom) for pushing the frontiers of genome editing.

  • It's been a year of growth for Arena, so we were delighted to strengthen bonds and forge new ones while flexing our arcade skills at the holiday party. As we look ahead to the next year, Arena's focus continues to be human-biology-first. Emphasis on human.
