For Project Planner Jalen M., attending North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University meant learning alongside peers and finding a true sense of belonging: “Throughout my journey, I was fortunate to have mentors and a strong network at my HBCU who significantly influenced my growth. As former student president of SASLA, I recognize the importance of giving back through studio critiques or helping students find internships. It is crucial to never forget where you come from and to support those who follow in your footsteps.” We’re grateful to Jalen and all our HBCU alumni for bringing their skills, values, and leadership to Toole Design.

The first of three Transportation Demand Management (TDM) pilots with the Atlanta Regional Commission is officially underway! Alongside our partners at Blue Cypress Consulting, LLC, our project team trained a new cohort of local transportation ambassadors from Atlanta's West End. During the three-day training, they: 🚲 Led an educational bike ride to experience the streets firsthand 📍 Practiced planning and leading bike and transit routes, such as getting to the airport 📚 Discussed everyday travel challenges, like weather, carrying cargo, traveling with kids, and safety 🚉 Met with MARTA, Atlanta DOT, Lime, and Bird staff to learn more about transit and micromobility Now they’re ready to bring their skills back to their community and support new multimodal commuters. For nearly 50 years, right turn on red (RTOR) has been a staple of American traffic operations. Is it actually effective? More importantly, is it safe? In the latest issue of Michigan Planner, Toole Design’s Bill Schultheiss and Mariel Colman, P.E., AICP unpack this from a historical context and provide findings from traffic analysis scenarios.
