At Waymo, we know trust is earned through every mile we drive and every interaction we have with communities. This past Saturday, a widespread PG&E outage presented an extraordinary challenge for San Francisco, with nearly one-third of the city losing power. While the Waymo Driver successfully navigated over 7,000 dark traffic signals, we are already integrating lessons from the outage: we’re rolling out fleet-wide updates to improve navigation at dark traffic lights during regional outages, and we’ll continue to coordinate with Mayor Lurie’s office and the city’s first responders to identify areas of greater collaboration in our existing emergency preparedness plans. As a team that lives and works in San Francisco, we are undaunted by the challenge of making our streets safer—starting right here at home.
