“The disability rights movement popularized the phrase ‘Nothing about us without us.’ Waymo is working toward a more inclusive transportation system than the one we have today, including engaging people with disabilities right from the beginning.” – Carl Richardson For people across the markets Waymo serves today, safe, accessible transportation is already at their fingertips. Many others across the country want this same freedom of mobility. For Carl, and thousands of others in Massachusetts, Waymo’s fully autonomous ride-hailing service would unlock additional housing and employment options, simplify travel with service animals, and create safer streets for all road users. “We need to make sure anyone feels like the streets are there to protect their lives and to take care of them,” Eli Akira Kaufman, executive director of BikeLA. Eli and his parents, who can no longer drive, shared the road together on a recent trip -- him on a bicycle and his parents riding in a Waymo. Find out why Eli believes Waymo can help build a future where all LA road users feel safe and aging Angelenos have expanded mobility choices. Discover the inspiring story. https://lnkd.in/eMH2Ejgw

Homeboy Industries is an L.A. nonprofit serving previously incarcerated and formerly gang-involved individuals on the road to re-entry. It currently serves 500+ people with workforce training and wraparound support. For trainees and “homies,” having transportation to a court case or not can be the difference between having a record expunged or not, or keeping their children or not. “Even with the transportation we have at this point, we can't serve everybody,” said Shovon, a government relations lead at Homeboy Industries and a former trainee. Now Waymo and Homeboy Industries are partnering to explore how Waymo’s service could provide a safe, reliable, judgement-free mobility option to those on the road to re-entry. Find out what Shovon said when he took his first ride. https://lnkd.in/edqDx4E9

Whether it's getting to a doctor's appointment, to work, or to a date, everyone should be able to travel safely and on their own terms. Including people who cannot or choose not to drive. When it comes to people with Autism, only a third have driver's licenses. "To be at the onset of this new technology, this new service and the implementation of these opportunities? It's unheard of. Usually we are an afterthought," said Fernando Gomez, a parent of a child with disabilities. At Waymo, we're including advocates at the design and development phase to build a product that prioritizes accessibility for a variety of riders' needs. We're proud to lift up voices from the Autism Society of America, Integrated Community Collaborative, and Connor Tomlinson and his mom Lise from Netflix’s Love on the Spectrum, to share how this technology is driving safe, reliable, independent mobility for their families: https://lnkd.in/dvcdyYYz 👏 Heather Aijian, Amanda Ventura, Anjelica Price-Rocha

We're excited to explore how innovation like this can help build a more accessible future. Pictured are Claire and Tulane standing next to the Waymo vehicle in the hotel valet area. "When people tell you you can't get a job, at Homeboys we tell you, ‘Yes, you can.’ When people tell you you're worthless, at Homeboys they tell you they love you,” said Miguel, a security coordinator at Homeboy Industries. With the help of Homeboy Industries, Miguel had more than 150 tattoos removed from his body and found work after leaving incarceration. His journey is a testament to the power of community at Homeboy Industries, a nonprofit in L.A. providing workforce training, wraparound services, and legal support to over 500 individuals like Miguel. Waymo and Homeboy Industries are exploring how Waymo’s technology can provide safe, judgement-free rides on the road to reintegration.
