About us
OUR MISSION Phi Delta Theta was built on three pillars that haven’t budged an inch since the Fraternity was founded by “The Immortal Six” way back in 1848 at Miami University. The pillars are: The cultivation of friendship among its members, the acquirement individually of a high degree of mental culture, and the attainment personally of a high standard of morality. Shortened, we refer to the principles as friendship, sound learning, and rectitude. Helping every individual to meet his true potential is the bedrock of the Phi Delta Theta Fraternity. By celebrating each person’s true self, and by learning from each other’s strengths while helping to improve each other’s weaknesses, every member of Phi Delta Theta develops into a greater version of himself than he could ever on his own. Rather than try to find young men to “mold” into some ideal, we celebrate the uniqueness of each individual and, through encouragement, values, example, and brotherhood, empower every brother to exceed his personal expectations. OUR HISTORY As the Christmas holidays approached in 1848, the atmosphere on the Miami University campus in Oxford, Ohio was gloomy and uncertain. This was the mood in which Robert Morrison suggested to a close friend and classmate, John McMillan Wilson, that they consider putting together a new collegiate brotherhood. On December 30, the “Immortal Six” put their signatures to The Bond of the Phi Delta Theta in Wilson’s room. Their names remain a vital part of the rituals that continue today in every chapter room across the United States and Canada. The Bond has remained unchanged from that day to this. PHI DELTA THETA TODAY In over 170 years of its existence, Phi Delta Theta has expanded to over 275 campuses and initiated more than 270,000 men. Today, Phi Delta Theta currently has 191 chapters and colonies and approximately 178,000 living alumni and 100 alumni clubs in the United States and Canada.

"Over half of my job as a volunteer involves simply showing up and letting the members know that I care about them and am there to serve and help them improve their chapter, grow their membership, and enhance their undergraduate experience by being a member of Phi Delta Theta." #VolunteerProfile https://lnkd.in/gbgR_fXb

"To me, brotherhood means that no matter what situation you find yourself in, there will always be a brother to turn to—whether for help or just a good laugh. I love strengthening that bond with my brothers by taking them on trips like these, ones they will never forget." Brother Daniel Patterson, CSUN '28, from California Zeta is exploring Yosemite with his chapter brothers, while taking the brotherhood bond to new heights. ⚔️ #phidelt #phideltatheta

💡 In today’s philanthropic landscape, donors are seeking smarter, more impactful ways to support the causes they care about. Two of the most effective vehicles—Individual Retirement Accounts (IRAs) and Donor-Advised Funds (DAFs)—offer unique advantages for both donors and nonprofits like the Phi Delta Theta Foundation. We’re proud to stand alongside Steve and Rae Ann Gruver and the Max Gruver Foundation during #NationalHazingPreventionWeek. Since Max’s passing, the Gruvers have shared his story on hundreds of campuses, reaching thousands of students with the hope of preventing another tragedy. Together, we recognized the need to start the conversation earlier—before students enter college. That’s why the Take Action peer-to-peer program was created: to provide hazing prevention education and empower students to make a difference. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/gKnn8jHT
Thank you TAKE ACTION Peer-to-Peer Program from Max Gruver Foundation and Phi Delta Theta Fraternity for your support of #nationalhazingpreventionweek! 🫶 Take Action is a no-cost, 60 minute program that shares Max Gruver’s story and provides peer-to-peer hazing prevention education from current college students who share their experiences in clubs, teams, and organizations. 💜 #BeTheLeader #HazingPrevention #NHPW #NHPW2025

Brotherhood is built on respect, not hazing. ⚔️ #BeTheLeader #NHPW2025 Hazing can happen anywhere: sports, clubs, bands, fraternities, workplaces. It’s time to call it out and end it—‘to do what ought to be done.’ These hands don't haze. 🚫👏 Hazing Prevention Network
