Who loves pears and peaches?! 🍐🍑 Last month, I had the opportunity to visit California’s peach and pear orchards and interview growers! I saw firsthand how much care and passion goes into these fruits. These are family farms, passed down for generations. Peaches and pears are hand-harvested at peak ripeness. Then, depending on the farm, anywhere from 50-100% of the fruit is canned within hours — locking in its flavor as well as the nutrients. So this is your reminder that canned fruit is just as nutritious as fresh! And quick purchasing tip: Turn over to the back label to ensure that it doesn’t list a foreign country of origin. That’s how you’ll know you’re supporting these local family farmers. When it's a product of the USA, depending on the store brand, it may or may not say so. But if it is imported, the FDA stipulates that it must be noted on the label. What questions do you have about canned fruits? Let me know in the comments! 🤗 👇 #CannedFruits #Dietitian #Debunking #FruitsandVeggies #CanFan #NutritionPartner - Pacific Coast Producers, CEDERLIND FARMS LP, David J Elliot & Son - Stillwater Orchards

  • 👩🍳 We are transforming School Nutrition Through Culinary Innovation New insights from the latest Alternative Food Network podcast highlight a critical issue in U.S. youth health: nearly 1 in 5 children are affected by obesity, and over 25% of adolescents (aged 12–19) are prediabetic. These statistics underscore the urgent need for smarter, healthier school meal solutions - that include canned fruits and tomatoes! This episode shines a spotlight on chefs who are leading the charge—designing appetizing, nutritious meals that not only satisfy but also uplift entire school communities. 📘 To support schools in this mission, PCP has developed a 15 Recipe Booklet for Schools featuring creative, nutritious recipes crafted by Chef Rebecca, Chef Taylor, Chef Omar, and Chef Jason. Each recipe is tailored to inspire school foodservice teams and engage students with flavors they’ll love, using canned as an easy way to add nutrients to school meals. Highlight of my internship so far: touring the Pacific Coast Producers facility in Lodi. PCP is a grower-owned cooperative that partners with over 160 family farms across California. They are also one of the largest private-label food companies in the U.S., connecting farmers to markets worldwide. The Lodi plant focuses on peaches and apricots, and seeing the volume moving through the facility was incredible. California produces nearly half of the nation’s fruits, nuts, and vegetables, and this tour gave me a firsthand look at the scale, efficiency, and teamwork it takes to make that possible. The experience gave me a deeper appreciation for how much collaboration goes into moving food from farm to table.

  • 🌱 At Pacific Coast Producers, our mission goes beyond supplying the nation with high-quality canned fruits and tomatoes—we advocate for the family farmers who make it possible. This week, PCP CEO Matt Strong and VP of Sales & Marketing Andy Russick stood alongside Congressman Josh Harder to support the bipartisan CANS Act. This legislation would strengthen transparency in food labeling by requiring clear country-of-origin placement on canned goods. Why it matters: ✅ Shoppers deserve honest, easy-to-read labels ✅ California growers deserve fair competition in the marketplace ✅ Communities benefit when family farming is preserved for future generations We’re proud to represent our grower-owners in the Central Valley and continue working toward a stronger, more transparent food system. https://lnkd.in/gRATWvsS
