At our Goorambat East Solar Farm in Victoria, we’ve recently completed installation for all solar panels - a huge milestone!
Commissioning is underway, and we’re expecting first energisation by the end of October 2025, with full energisation on track for mid-2026. ⚡
Big thanks to our contractors Bouygues Construction Australia and Equans Solar & Storage for their innovation and forward thinking - including testing three autonomous robotic systems to install foundation pilings and most recently solar panels.
In August and September, Luminous’ autonomous panel installing LUMI robots were tested on-site by skilled technicians to help boost safety and productivity, with funding from Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA). 🤖
Once energised, the solar farm will generate up to 250 MW - enough to power up to 105,000 Victorian homes.

How do we build utility-scale solar faster, safer and at lower cost? We saw the answer in action at Goorambat.
Recently our team visited ENGIE AU’s solar farm in Victoria to see ARENA funding recipient Luminous and their ‘LUMI’ robots hard at work.
These autonomous machines are speeding up a normally laborious and costly process by lifting 75kg panels onto racks, improving productivity on site and gathering real‑world data to optimise performance.
It was great to see the speed and ambition of the Luminous team and how this technology is helping solar panel installation.
Australia needs to accelerate large‑scale solar to decarbonise our electricity system. Luminous Robotics received $4.9m funding through ARENA’s Solar ScaleUp Challenge to deploy their innovative tech.
Projects like Luminous support ARENA’s Ultra Low‑Cost Solar vision and helps industry deliver more renewable generation sooner.
If you’re developing a solar PV project with potential to improve cost, efficiency or scalability, you could be eligible for a grant from ARENA’s Ultra Low-Cost Solar R&D program.

Check out LUMI’s POV during the MassRobotics annual parade last weekend as it drives safely through a crowd of 1300 people.
Boston Mayor, Michelle Wu, says *this* is the place for robotics. It really is. This weekend was the highest attended Block Party ever—it truly speaks to the enthusiasm and energy residing in Boston. The share density of robotics activity and talent here is unmatched anywhere else in the world.
As Luminous continues to scale and make impact globally—we won’t lose sight of where we call home. We owe it to this community to inspire—the kids who so loudly proclaimed “WOAH THAT’S SO COOL” will undoubtedly be the brilliant minds behind LUMI Series 34 and help manifest the innovations of tomorrow.
Röhlig Australia Delivers the Future: Supporting the Birth of Solar Robots
At Röhlig Logistics, we’re proud to be part of a project that combines robotics, renewable energy, and a touch of imagination. Thanks to funding from the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) and the visionary collaboration with Bouygues Construction Australia and Equans Solar & Storage Australia, robotics pioneer Luminous has introduced their LUMI robots — AI-powered machines designed to transform solar panel installation—to the Australian market.
These clever robots are already at work on the Goorambat East Solar Farm in Victoria, Victoria’s largest solar farm to date, with Bouygues Construction Australia and Equans Solar & Storage Australia as the main contractor. Their job? To pick and place heavy solar panels, making the process faster, safer and more efficient for workers on the ground.
Our role in the journey
Röhlig’s logistics expertise has played a crucial part in bringing this vision to life:
- Sea and Air freight solutions for all equipment and components
- Customs consultancy, duty review and minimisation, last mile delivery to the field with a specialised truck
- And, most excitingly, a dedicated assembly and work space in our brand-new 4-star green star-rated Melbourne warehouse, providing a “home” where the first two robots were assembled, tested, and set up.
We like to say we witnessed the birth of robot twins! 🤖🤖
While Luminous’ talented team did the hard work of assembly, we were proud to provide the space and support. Watching these “newborns” come to life in our warehouse before heading off to their mission at the solar farm was a moment to remember.
Now, those twins are hard at work helping to build a cleaner, safer, and more sustainable energy future for Australia.
Röhlig is proud to be part of this journey — supporting our customers and partners with logistics that enable renewable innovation.

I’m excited to share Luminous and Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) will be releasing and open sourcing solar construction’s largest, most comprehensive robotics dataset.
We believe this is the honest approach to truly democratize solar for humanity. Such that this effort becomes the fuel on which innovative solutions, not just for panel installation and construction, but the holistic, collective industry can benefit from, in accelerating the planet into a future of true solar scale up.
Stay tuned — sharing more in the coming months!
(in partnership with Equans Solar & Storage & Bouygues Construction Australia)
Every panel in view was robotically installed by just two LUMIs, in a few days—now, imagine what the future can be!!
Installing heavy 90+ lbs panels is one of the biggest bottlenecks in solar construction at scale. In a time where energy demand is a forcing function for AI data centers and decarbonization, it’s more important now than ever to reimagine how technology can empower humanity to build at rates we’ve yet to witness.
This is a global, humanitarian problem. And for the past month, I’ve been on two of the furtherest points on the planet—now, even more convinced Luminous will make massive positive impact to our world.
🇦🇺 Luminous Robotics Pty Ltd — graciously backed by Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) and partnered with forward thinking Equans Solar & Storage, Bouygues Construction Australia, & ENGIE deployed its first LUMI S4 fleet on this 319 MWdc (250 MWac) project. The first phase of a future at scale.
🇺🇸 Luminous Robotics, Inc. — Boston HQ revamped and gearing up for something big. Meanwhile, RE+ was refreshing to see the industry’s overall tone shift to seriously discussing “robotics strategy” with the onset of OBBB.
Great to see the industry acknowledging the inevitabity of AI (e.g. Nextracker Inc. creating a Robotics and AI division and module framing acquisition of Origami Solar), as the holistic pieces are coming together—ripe for automation.
It’s truly time to scale solar! 💛🦾🚀
Luminous aspires to be one of the most impactful companies in the world—by massively reimagining energy infrastructure at scale powering AI data centers and decarbonization.
We’ve been laser focused in solar construction these past 15 months, advancing LUMI Series 4 as the most flexible solution in the industry.
Yet, it’s becoming clear to me the LUMI product is not simply a machine. It is the intimate co-optimization of operational flow (orchestration), nuanced geometry, and onsite variance—derived from transparency & empathy.
I’m unconvinced adoption comes from technology alone. But rather, it is inevitable when we create a holistic narrative which truly connects to, befriends, and empowers the people (e.g. Jack) building our planet’s future.
The Luminous S4 fleet is live on Goorambat East Solar Farm, a 319 MWdc (250 MWac) site built by one of the largest construction companies on the planet Bouygues Construction: Equans Solar & Storage & Bouygues Construction Australia for one of the largest energy companies in the world, ENGIE, in the most advanced and intense solar energy markets on the globe, Australia.
Our team has pulled off the most aggressive logistics + manufacturing + field deployment timeline to date. The result: LUMI exceeding target production rate, at 103%—with key data & flow insights to shockingly increase nameplate capacity towards 246%.
This demanded a Herculean effort from Boston HQ, our newly established AU division, and a team of boots on the ground operators to deliver this vision halfway across the world, at unparalleled execution speed—of which was only made possible by leaders who all laced up their boots on Aussie soil to deliver something truly impactful: Tenzin, Nikhil, Lucas, Bob, Krishna, & Roman. 🚀🙏
Fueled by support from Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA), we’re keen to accelerate our next phase where we fine tune the LUMI fleet’s capabilities—further advancing and optimizing flow, autonomy, reliability, manufacturability, and massively improving energy infrastructure at scale. Stay tuned!
