Buildings that Welcome, Support, and Connect. For more than two decades, LMN Architects has partnered with business schools to design facilities that foster connection, support, and growth. Between 2016 and 2018, we completed a longitudinal study at the Utah State University - Jon M. Huntsman School of Business, examining the impact a highly collaborative facility had on a predominantly undergraduate business program located on a rural campus by comparing pre-occupancy and post-occupancy data. Now, with a new longitudinal study conducted between 2019 and 2024, we analyze the impacts of the recently completed Edward J. Minskoff Pavilion at Michigan State University - Eli Broad College of Business, intentionally focusing on student services and public amenities across the challenging years of the COVID crisis. It used to be a highway, but now it is Seattle's new 'front porch'. The Seattle Times reports on the completion of the new #Seattle waterfront and the Seattle Aquarium Ocean Pavilion designed by LMN Architects with Thinc Design. “The centerpiece of it all is the new Overlook Walk — a sprawling, meandering set of staircases, ramps and platforms perched atop the new addition to the Seattle Aquarium — which connects Pike Place Market PDA to the new park below. It is both journey and destination. It is a way to get from point A to point B, but also a place in and of itself. It is a bridge, a gathering space, a stage.” To read the article, visit The Seattle Times: https://lnkd.in/ei22wHv6

The U.S. Green Building Council highlights leading sustainable attractions across the country in its latest survey of aquariums and zoos, featuring the new Seattle Aquarium Ocean Pavilion designed by LMN Architects and Thinc Design. These projects exemplify a commitment to conservation and environmental stewardship through innovative green building practices. “The Seattle Aquarium Ocean Pavilion, which was awarded LEED Gold certification in March 2025, opened in August 2024 in tandem with the Overlook Walk. News outlets enthusiastically described the 50,000-square-foot “high-tech showcase for the tropical deep sea” as a boon to the city’s downtown. “The immersive pavilion contains four major elements: The Reef, The Archipelago, At Home in the Ocean, and One Ocean Hall, an interactive audiovisual space. Education and animal care areas are also located in the new section. The Ocean Pavilion complements the aquarium’s existing Pier 59 and Pier 60 exhibits to even more fully share the story of ‘Earth’s one ocean.’” To read the article, visit the USGBC portal: https://lnkd.in/gfmDMjq2

Aquatic Openings. The Seattle Aquarium Ocean Pavilion designed by LMN Architects is featured in the June issue of The Architect's Newspaper dedicated to innovative windows, walls, and doors. “This notion of breaking the typical ‘black box’ aquarium mold, where illuminated marine habitats punctuate pitch-black interior exhibit spaces, was paramount to the Ocean Pavilion design, which was led by Seattle architecture firm LMN and New York–based exhibition designers Thinc Design. Creating glazed openings in unexpected places, both on the building itself and the tanks inside, was a central design move. ‘Connecting habitat apertures and building openings was a way of linking the Indo-Pacific exhibits inside with the Salish Sea just outside,’ Hanna Kato, the LMN associate who served as project architect on the building, told AN. ‘We’re trying to make the visitor aware that their actions here at home, in this part of the world, affect the other side of the ocean, too.’" To read the article, visit The Architect's Newspaper: https://lnkd.in/gxt8H9rX
