Since 2020, the Dr. Lorna Breen Heroes' Foundation and members of its ALL IN: Wellbeing First for Healthcare Coalition have worked tirelessly to raise awareness about the mental health care needs and rights of healthcare workers. The Foundation recently released a new research report in collaboration with the Heart of Safety Coalition that explores clinician perceptions of potential barriers to access mental health care. Corey Feist, JD, MBA, and Liz Boehm, discuss this research and the potential cultural, structural and institutional barriers that prevent some clinicians from seeking mental health care. We talk a lot about “burnout” in healthcare. But as J. Corey Feist, JD, MBA of the Dr. Lorna Breen Heroes' Foundation explains in our Hope Illuminated interview, the reality often runs deeper -- moral injury. Moral injury happens when clinicians are forced to work in ways that betray their values or compromise patient care. It’s not something a yoga session can fix.
