🗾 Today is Disaster Prevention Day in Japan — a fitting day to share my second #GPDRR 2025 blog. ✍️ I co-wrote this piece with Andiswa Mlisa at Pacific Community-SPC, reflecting on her exchange with the President of Palau. It was a powerful reminder of why we must continue to strengthen #DigitalEarthPacific for the Pacific Islands 🏝️. 🙏A heartfelt thank you to Jenty Kirsch-Wood and Iria Touzon Calle Calle for having me on the Organizing Team of the session they led, where the President of Palau gave a keynote that left us all inspired. 🛰️ Read the blog here: https://lnkd.in/ebumBRuR

🥵 This summer in Japan, the urban humidity and extreme heat were unbearable — I could feel my productivity vanish in the heat. 🔥 That personal experience has strengthened my determination to help drive GEO’s Global Heat Resilience Service (GHRS) forward. At #GPDRR 2025, I wrote about how GHRS is now in development with cities like São Paulo, Bangalore, and Freetown, and how it can turn data into decisions for resilience. 👉 This is the first of my four blogs from GPDRR — and also my second blog in this new journey of writing. 🔗 Read it here: https://lnkd.in/edXxksdT
Extreme heat is now a daily planning problem. The GEO-convened Global Heat Resilience Service turns fragmented data into neighbourhood-scale guidance for mayors and planners: where to cool first, and how. In this new blog from Rui Kotani and Martyn Clark, read about how we bought it to this year's Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction, one of the biggest international conferences on reducing disaster risk, organised by United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR). 🔗 https://lnkd.in/epiXsbpa

“Nature is our ally.” That was the powerful message delivered by Tim Christophersen (Salesforce VP for Climate Action and a former UN Environment Programme senior official) in an interview with Rhett Ayers Butler for Mongabay. His reflections resonate deeply with the mission of the GEO-convened Global Ecosystems Atlas: - We are the first generation with the knowledge, technology and financial capacity to restore entire biomes. The Atlas will make that knowledge accessible, actionable and globally connected. - Public–private collaboration is essential. The Atlas is being built with partners across borders and sectors to create a shared foundation for decision-making. - Ecosystem restoration is critical to tackling climate change. The Atlas will provide the data and insights needed to plan, prioritise and monitor this at scale. - Finance is key. As initiatives like Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD) make nature an investable asset class, the Atlas helps define and measure ecosystem services to guide investment. Tim’s call is clear: rebuilding humanity’s ties to nature is essential. The Global Ecosystems Atlas is one way we’re answering that call. Link to article in first comment. #MapEcosystems
