🚨 Call for proposals: help power #Mission300 Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet is inviting expert service providers and firms to respond to our Request for Proposals (RFP) for the pre-qualification and empanelment of partners who will help establish and operationalize Country Delivery and Monitoring Units (CDMUs) across Africa. CDMUs are a cornerstone of Mission 300 — the joint effort with The World Bank, African Development Bank Group, The Rockefeller Foundation, RF Catalytic Capital , andSustainable Energy for All (SEforALL)) to bring electricity to 300 million Africans by 2030. Over two days in Hanoi, Global Energy Alliance brought together government agencies, investors, policymakers, industry leaders, development partners, and the media to advance conversations on Battery Energy Storage Systems (#BESS) in #Vietnam. The program included a site visit to an industrial park, followed by a Technical Meeting: BESS Taskforce, focused on financing and development models for large-scale deployment. In addition, the #Alliance hosted a Regional Roundtable on Financing Models for BESS, bringing together voices from across Asia to address one of the sector’s biggest challenges — unlocking investment to scale deployment. Across these engagements, discussions underscored the pivotal role of storage in advancing the Revised Power Development Plan VIII, strengthening grid flexibility, enabling renewable integration, and providing ancillary services. Insights from government, industry, and international partners highlighted both challenges and opportunities, with a clear consensus: collaboration and innovative financing are essential to accelerate BESS deployment and secure Vietnam’s clean energy transition and long-term energy security. The just-concluded Africa Climate Summit 2, held in Addis Ababa, spotlighted both the urgency and transformative potential of climate action across the region. Leaders emphasised that Africa is uniquely positioned to drive the global fight against the climate crisis. Africa does much more than merely respond to them. The key takeaways include: ✔️ Energy access as a foundation for growth: Reliable, affordable, and clean energy is vital for Africa's economic empowerment. The Summit celebrated energy technologies ranging from solar mini-grids that extend power to unserved areas, and firmly positioned decentralised renewable energy as an outlier that improves lives. ✔️ Collaboration over competition: Progress depends on progressive partnerships. Leaders highlighted how coalitions unite governments, financiers, innovators, and communities to unlock investment and the skills essential for success. ✔️ Accelerating finance: There is an urgent call to shift from climate aid to climate investment. The Summit launched pioneering initiatives, such as the Africa Climate Innovation Compact and the African Climate Facility, mobilising up to USD 50 billion annually for new climate technology. ✔️ People at the center: The Summit platformed youth leaders and gender-inclusive initiatives, demonstrating that local solutions, grounded in lived experience, are essential for meaningful and long-lasting climate action. GEAPP's mission aims to bridge technology, finance, and policy innovation to fuel ingenuity. The Alliance is writing equality, adaptation and resilience into Africa's next era of growth. For Kenya’s 3 million motorcycle taxi drivers, fuel costs eat up nearly half of their daily income. But Lilian’s switch to an electric bike has doubled her take-home pay — money she now uses to pay school fees and provide for her two children. Last week, our colleagues Edward Borgstein and Collen Zalengera PrEng. (MwEI) PhD MSc BSc represented The Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet at the 2025 #MalawiEngineeringConference, hosted by the Malawi Engineering Institution (MEI) in Salima. The discussion highlighted two essential components for turbocharging energy access in #Africa: ✔️ Local expertise should be at the core of delivery   ✔️ Adequate financing should be provided from the start,  Projects that are underfunded or lack inclusion restrict delivery, erode quality and, significantly, compromise trust! #Mission300 creates more than energy connections; it’s a pathway to #livelihoods and an opportunity to partner in inclusive growth. Energy access is the foundation of Africa’s economic transformation. At Africa Climate Summit 2 in Addis Ababa, we are advancing #Mission300, electrifying 300 million Africans by 2030. Why it matters: 👉 Africa is home to the world’s youngest population, with over 60% of its population under 25, but millions are locked out of #opportunities by unreliable power. 👉 African MSMEs account for 95% of registered businesses, contribute half of the continent’s GDP, yet are constrained by high #energycosts and limited access to credit. 👉 Today, fewer than 1 in 10 households in sub-Saharan Africa use #electricity for more than lighting or charging.
