Across #Nigeria, a quiet solar revolution is taking hold — from the presidential residence in Abuja to communities like Ifo in Ogun State. As fuel subsidies end and generator costs soar, #solar #minigrids are emerging as a lifeline for homes and small businesses. Through Alliance partnerships with The World Bank, The Rockefeller Foundation Foundation, and local developers like Darway Coast Ltd, these interconnected mini-grids are providing reliable, affordable, and #clean electricity to thousands — reaching traders, shop owners, and farmers who have long faced unpredictable power. In Ifo, shop owner Christiana Okechukwu now runs her business without interruption. “There’s constant light from morning to night — and you can predict when it will come. It’s encouraging,” she said. In #Africa, the Alliance unlocked $4.2 billion in finance towards 49 projects deployed and ready for deployment. “Since this cold room was brought to our community it has been very helpful and we really appreciate it,” says Bitrus. “Now I can buy fish in bulk and keep it there. So, our fish does not get spoiled, and we do not have to sell them very cheaply,” said Blessing, a fish trader in #Nigeria. In #Malawi, we've set a 20-year vision for demand forecasting, generation, transmission, and distribution. Key highlights include: ✅ Broad stakeholder engagement from the start — with four working groups ensuring alignment with national development goals. ✅ A strong focus on capacity building, including six training modules and a Training of Trainers program in tools like PLEXOS, DIgSILENT, and GIS. ✅ Collaboration with academia to embed IRP practices into university curricula, ensuring the next generation of energy planners. ✅ Local subcontractors contributing contextual insights and advancing environmental and social considerations.
