Working to End Extreme Poverty NOW ⭕️ Tune in to Global Citizen Festival on Sept. 27

About us

We are an advocacy organization dedicated to ending extreme poverty. We do this by encouraging people to learn and take action on our platform; those actions apply pressure on world leaders to make commitments around the issues associated with extreme poverty: gender equality, food security, education, the environment, global health, citizenship, and sanitation. We don't ask people for money, but to take action for the world’s poor. These actions can be as simple as a tweet, signing a petition, making a phone call, or sending an email. By taking action, these Global Citizens are rewarded with access and tickets to our music festivals and other events around the world. So far, more than 13 million actions have been taken by Global Citizens, leading to $35 billion commitments being made by world leaders, which are set to affect 1.3 billion lives by 2030.

  • Longtime friends of Global Citizen, Idris Elba and Sabrina Dhowre Elba made their #GlobalCitizenFestival debut with the Elba Hope Foundation, speaking about opening doors for youth across Africa and beyond. From the stage, they also reflected on the night’s collective impact — raising $30 million for the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund, expanding clean energy access to 4.6 million people, and protecting 25 million hectares of the Amazon — before welcoming United Nations Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed.

  • At #GlobalCitizenFestival, Hugh Jackman, Carli Lloyd, FIFA President Gianni Infantino, Global Citizen CEO Hugh Evans, and actor Liza Koshy came together to share a milestone for the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund. With Bank of America as founding donor, a major contribution from Cisco, and support from the Government of Sierra Leone, the fund has now surpassed 30 million dollars raised. Together, we are harnessing the power of football to deliver on one goal: education for every child.

Despite NYC's traffic, we're off to the races today! I started with an early Global Citizen NOW fireside chat with Sabrina Dhowre Elba. Our conversation focused on the role of the private sector in driving resilient development, digital inclusion, and AI skills. This theme resonated on Morning Joe with Hugh Evans, as we discussed Cisco's long-standing partnership with Global Citizen. Over the past 8 years, we've demonstrated the power of technology in accelerating access to healthcare, education, and the digital economy. At Global Citizen Festival later this week, Cisco's technology will be connecting and protecting the festival to further help bring people together for positive change. Lastly, I joined Justin B. Smith, CEO of SEMAFOR, on stage for a fireside chat on "AI for Inclusive Growth." Our discussion highlighted Africa's pivotal role in shaping the global AI future, particularly through their youth. Our recent report with Carnegie Mellon University Africa, "AI and the Workforce in Africa," shows that 78% of Africa's youth use AI tools weekly, outpacing many global peers, and 75% plan to start a business in the next five years. However, unlocking this potential requires addressing challenges like the digital divide and skill gaps. Public-private partnerships are not just a theme this week, but the proven pathway to translate innovation and skilling into tangible, lasting impact for all.
