In honor of National Child Health Day, I wanted to share some striking statistics that show that having a permanent family is so important for long term health: ➡️ Between 70-92% of foster care children have a chronic health issue, compared to 10-30% of youth across the US ➡️ Children in foster care and emancipated youth experience PTSD at a rate that is 2x that of war veterans ➡️ Obesity rates of foster care children are 2x higher than their peers ➡️ 4 out of 5 children and adolescents enter foster care with serious mental health issues ➡️ Adolescents in foster care have depression prevalence rates 2-3 x higher than adolescents in the general population ➡️ 69% of foster youth report lifetime drug use These statistics are daunting and the work to turn them around is important.
