Caltrans District 2 Maintenance Yard welcomed AmeriGas Propane Transport International (PTI) for a recent specialized training designed to help local first responders prepare for crashes involving propane trailers. The day began with a classroom session, then moved outdoors for hands-on training with a propane trailer brought in from Houston by AmeriGas PTI. This unique trailer allowed participants to explore both the interior and exterior of a propane tank — offering valuable insights into what first responders need to look for when securing a scene safely. Participants included: 👷 Caltrans District 2 Maintenance Supervisors and Superintendents 🚒 Redding Fire Department 🔥 CAL FIRE Shasta-Trinity Unit / SHASTA COUNTY FIRE DEPARTMENT 🚓 California Highway Patrol Thanks to this collaboration, our region’s responders are now better prepared to manage propane-related incidents and keep our communities safe. What a fun day in Lakeport! Our Caltrans District 1 team had the pleasure of joining the Lakeport Unified School District’s 4th Annual “Trucks on the Track” event at Terrace Middle School. Students and staff got a close-up look at our heavy equipment and large trucks, and we had a great time sharing the important role these vehicles play in keeping California moving safely. 🚧Nature Hits SR 38 Again Last week, SR 38 was fully closed after heavy flooding and mudslides swept through the mountain corridor. The sudden debris flows trapped motorists between multiple slide areas and a slip out. Our Caltrans District 8 crews responded immediately, working through tough conditions to free stranded travelers and secure the roadway. Their quick action helped keep people safe during a fast-changing emergency. Mountain terrain can shift in an instant, especially near recent burn scars. Please stay alert and prepared when traveling through these areas.
