  • On Sunday, Sept. 14, nearly 50 Metro colleagues—Ambassadors, operators, planners and more—marched in the East LA Mexican Independence Day Parade alongside our Hispanic Heritage Month bus. Together, we handed out limited-edition commemorative TAP cards, connected with thousands of Angelenos and showed what Proud to be One Metro looks like in action. This effort was organized by Advancement of Latinos at Metro Association (ALMA) and the Office of Civil Rights, Racial Equity, and Inclusion (OCRREI, showcasing how our employee resource groups drive meaningful engagement. Big thank you to everyone who spent their Sunday representing Metro with heart, energy and smiles. You made this celebration feel welcoming, safe and unforgettable. Celebrating Latino heritage is part of how We Put People First, by showing up for the communities we serve.

This summer, I had the privilege of interning at Mott MacDonald as a Rail and Transit Engineering Intern. I worked with Los Angeles Metro on light rail vehicle component overhaul projects, where I gained valuable experience learning about the complex systems that make up these trains and the extensive work required to maintain this vital mode of public transportation. A huge thank you to the Mott MacDonald LA Office for supporting me, the LA Metro Component Overhaul Group for welcoming me to the team, and especially to Juan Carlos Hernandez for offering me this opportunity and providing such incredible mentorship.

  • Each year, the Youth Council hosts a Youth Summit event open to all High School students who may be interested in joining and having youth-led discussions about the future of transit. This year’s annual Metro Youth Summit took place at the Union Station Ticketing Concourse Room this past Saturday. The theme was Youth Elevating Transit for the World Stage, and the council hosted transit-related panel sessions focusing on elevating youth rider experience and best practices for youth engagement as Metro prepares for the FIFA World Cup 2026™ and 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games. There was also music, food, prizes and a 360° photo booth. It was the perfect way to kick off recruitment and spotlight the energy and creativity of LA’s next generation. The Youth Council is a platform where youth from across Los Angeles get a seat at the table during some of Metro’s biggest wins and defining moments. Members learn how decisions are made, share their voices on the future of transit, and represent their communities across our nine sub-regions. By joining, participants gain: • Leadership development through cabinet positions • Real-world civic engagement and networking with Metro leaders • Opportunities to participate in Metro events and activities • An end-of-year stipend, a letter of participation, and volunteer hours Applications for the 2026 Youth Council are open until Tuesday, September 30, 2025 at 6 PM.
