Last week, a group of our team members volunteered at a Habitat for Humanity build day in Worcester, MA. The team helped with the construction of an affordable, energy-efficient home designed with aging-in-place features to support accessibility and sustainability. It was a great opportunity to come together, give back to the community, and make a hands-on impact outside of our day-to-day work. We’re proud to support Habitat for Humanity’s mission to create safe, affordable housing for families in need.

We’re excited to share that Peter Harrod, P.E., Joshua Thomas, James McLaughlin, P.E., and Jason Cardinal, PE, LEED AP will present today at the 2025 NEBOEA Conference!   Peter and Josh will be speaking to “Construction Documentation for Building Officials: NFPA 241, Phased Occupancy, and Integrated Testing”. Their session will address new documentation requirements at the time of building permit application stemming from recent code adoptions. They’ll also outline what to look for when reviewing NFPA 241 construction fire safety plans, highlight key considerations for phased occupancy approvals, and examine the application of integrated testing.   Jason and James will take a deeper dive into the requirements of NFPA 4 during their presentation, “NFPA 4 & Integrated Testing – What You Really Need to Know.” The session will provide an overview of the Standard’s requirements, scoping considerations, and its application to both new and existing buildings. ⚡ Significant Update for Energy Storage in NYC ⚡ The NYC Department of Buildings has adopted two important rules for battery energy storage systems (ESS): ✅ Rule 101-19 – Makes indoor ESS installations viable with consistent design, approval, and installation requirements — and requires independent peer review to ensure compliance and safety. ✅ Rule 3616-07 – Adopts NFPA 855 with NYC-specific amendments, aligning the national standard with existing NYC bulletins, rules and the Fire Code to address the city’s unique urban environment. Last week, Daniel Picciano, Associate Principal / Sr Project Manager at Code Red Consultants, participated in a presentation with the Boston Fire Department Laboratory Safety Unit to the Boston Public Schools focused on laboratory safety. During the session, they reinforced hazard recognition through real-world examples and addressed key fire and life safety topics such as fire code compliance, common violations, and emergency response. The presentation contributed to the important goal of enhancing awareness and preparedness around fire safety in educational laboratory environments.
