I'm Nic, or thisisnic on GitHub. I'm an R developer, and part of the team who maintains the arrow R package.

I got involved in Apache Arrow after seeing a Twitter post at Ursa Labs talking about an "Open Source Maintainer Apprenticeship". It sounded like the coolest thing ever, and so I applied, and was absolutely astounded to get accepted. I've had an amazing time learning about being deeply involved in open source, and developing my skills as a developer and a project maintainer.

I'm currently running my own company, NC Data Labs, which specialises in R consultancy, open source development, and teaching.

Other recent project:

• co-authored a book on Arrow (available for free at www.arrowrbook.com)
• volunteering with RLadies and helping relaunch the abstract review system
• continuing to maintain the arrow R package

I'm planning on using GitHub sponsorship to help fund my plans of spending more time working on Arrow, and delivering talks and workshops.
