Description
Using a supported version?
- I have searched open and closed issues for duplicates.
- I am using Signal-Desktop as provided by the Signal team, not a 3rd-party package.
Overall summary
On Windows using NVDA, the verbalization of messages when navigating through the message list in focus mode is suboptimal. Not yet tested on other platforms or with different screen readers.
Steps to reproduce
- Open Signal
- Go to any chat
- Screen reader focus moves to the message edit field. This is fine. Shift+tab to get to the message list
- Ensure focus mode is enabled on NVDA's side by pressing NVDA + space. If you hear a high-pitched beep, it is on. If instead you hear a lower-pitched, smoother tone, press it again.
- Use the up and down arrow keys on your keyboard to navigate through each message in the list.
Expected result
For a regular text message, the user, message contents, and time it's sent should be verbalized, E.G., "Alice: 'Hello, how are you?' Today at 6:53 PM"
For a reply, the user who sent the quoted message, user who sent the reply, contents of the reply, and time should be verbalized, E.G., "Bob, in reply to Alice: 'Great, Thanks! How about you?' Today at 6:55 PM"
Actual result
For regular text messages, the contents of the message and time sent are verbalized, but not the user, E.G. "Hello, how are you? Today at 6:53 PM"
For replies, the user who sent the quoted message, contents of the quoted message, contents of the reply, and time sent are verbalized, E.G., "Alice Hello, how are you? Great, thanks! How about you? Today at 6:55 PM"
