Many projects are migrating away from Github for three reasons:

• reducing dependency on US-based infrastructure
• migrating away from commercial infrastructure
• avoiding Microsoft services

It would be worth considering whether migrating to a service such as Codeberg or OSGeo's gitea install would be useful.
