Assuming I have cloned a git repo and I cd into the repo.

What is the actual difference (if any) between

gitleaks dir .

and

gitleaks git .

dir only scans files in a directory. It won't go through a git repo's history.

git scans the history of the git repo. (It uses git log under the covers and scans the generated patches. 👍
