✈️ A Day in Manchester Line Engineering 🔧 Ever wondered what aviation engineering looks like on the ground in Manchester? Steve, Neil, and Niall can give you a pretty good idea… 👨🔧 Steve and Neil: You’ll often find them servicing the engine generator, the unit that keeps aircraft systems powered in flight. According to Neil, it’s detailed work, but he gets to turn his hand to lots of different tasks. His favourite part? The camaraderie in Manchester. The team spirit is strong, with colleagues supporting each other both on and off the job. 🛫 Niall: He updates the navigation database. Every time an aircraft takes off and follows a carefully mapped route, it’s thanks to the latest maps and software he loads in. His favourite part? The opportunities to travel when the team is called to fix aircraft around the world. And just like Neil, he is proud of the team’s resilience - they handle the unpredictable Manchester skies with a steady attitude. 💡 Over to you: What part of aviation engineering would you love to learn more about?

TUI welcomes the provisional agreement on the revision of the #PackageTravelDirective (PTD) reached between Parliament and Council – key takeaways from the early details: ❗ No cap on prepayments 🧩 Removal of Linked Travel Arrangements, simplifying the framework and reducing grey zones ℹ️ New information obligations when consumers add services that don’t form a package – wording will matter here ✈️ Free cancellation rights clarified: extraordinary circumstances must be assessed individually and do not extend to the traveller’s place of residence 🕒 Complaint-handling rules: acknowledgment within 7 days, reasoned reply within 60 days The outcome provides greater clarity on the rights of consumers and responsibilities of businesses, while keeping operational realities front and centre. For almost 2 years, TUI was part of the debate and aimed to contribute its operational and real-life expertise early on. A key milestone was the exchange with Commissioner Michael McGrath and his team at Directorate-General for Justice and Consumers, ensuring strengthened rights remain proportionate and practical. Continued engagement with ECTAA, Jan-Christoph Oetjen MEP, Cynthia Ní Mhurchú MEP, Rapporteur Alex Agius Saliba MEP, Dr. Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann MEP and Chair of Renew group, ELENA KOUNTOURA MEP, former Greek Tourism Minister, and Jens Gieseke MEP, as well as with the Hungarian, Belgian, Spanish and Danish EU Presidencies, enabled constructive assessment of operational impacts early on. 🏛️ Informal dialogue also mattered – such as the high-level Ambassadors’ Dinner co-hosted by TUI, represented by Thomas Ellerbeck, Member of the Group Executive Committee, and ECTAA, represented by its President Frank Oostdam – at the beginning of the Trilogue, which brought together key EU representations from leading travel markets and destinations. This exchange again illustrated tourism’s economic significance, supporting around 22 million European jobs and contributing over 20% of GDP in several Member States. Throughout this process, TUI provided evidence-based, transparent and operationally grounded input. This ensured an informed debate from day one on key issues such as payment flows, clear information duties, definitions on what constitutes a "package" and how travellers understand their coverage. 📊🔍 This work was jointly driven by the TUI Public Policy team under the leadership of Thomas Ellerbeck: Thank you Alexander Panczuk, Ralf Pastleitner, Napoleon von Sanden, Vincent Snauwaert and Tim Van Severen for engaging consistently in Brussels and national capitals. The agreed compromise keeps strong traveller protection, while #PackageTravel will remain the golden standard of travel and is on track to retain its competitive edge globally. 🌟✈️🧳 ➡️ Next steps: formal approval of the Trilogue compromise in early 2026, followed by 28 months for national transposition and 6 months before full application.
