Davis Burleson on What’s Poppin and POV as a Platform

Skate culture to Ariana Grande, the creator of the viral series shares what’s on his moodboard and what's next for his platform.

With Davis Burleson on the scene, New York City influencers can never be boring. The creator behind the viral “What’s Poppin?” series brings chaotic good energy to his street interviews. Part cultural commentary, part improv fun, the show became an online favorite, amassing over 2.1M followers.

He joined us IRL back in May for the first-ever Webby Creator Weekend to share his take on what it takes to build a platform rooted in curiosity of the unique nuances of New York. We caught up with him after to talk inspirations, icks and dream guests.

What inspires you online? Who or what is always on your mood board?

I find inspiration in everything. It inspires me when someone is living their true, authentic life. It gives me fuel to dive deeper into myself and my creativity. A quote that’s consistently in my brain is “when you dance like no one‘s watching, it inspires others to do the same.” It’s all about being loud and proud! My current mood board consists of a young David Beckham, Addison Rae, anyone who skateboards, and Walton Goggins.

Describe your content in three words.

Oooo this is tough! Maybe, “Just having fun!”

What’s a social media trend you’re obsessed with right now?

I am on the “being in your early 20s” / “finding yourself side” of TikTok… and there is a trend right now all about backpacking for a year. They show what they looked like before the experience and after. Every single person seems so much happier, carefree, and tan. For several years, I’ve had the desire to backpack, and this might just be my sign!

What’s your social media ick?

Negativity. It sounds cliché, but I’m truly icked out by hatred. I’d love to start a “touching grass” community.

Who or what is your dream collaboration?

Oh my gosh. Probably to interview Ariana Grande. Or Taylor Swift. Or Zendaya. Those are my girls.

What’s next for you?

I honestly have no idea. I have so many dreams, so I’m kind of letting the universe take rein. I’d love to act, continue hosting, write a book, run a marathon, backpack through Asia, and continue sharing my journey with my gorgeous audience!
