Elmcor’s Vice President of Youth Services, Leyla Bermudez, recently spoke with Univision New York about the rise in youth substance use and the urgent need to address the social stressors and racial disparities that impact our Black and Brown youth, stressors that have only intensified since the pandemic. In the interview, she discussed why youth substance use is increasing, the signs families should look for in their child’s behavior, health, and social life, and why asking for help is a sign of power, not weakness. She also shared what makes Elmcor’s Youth Clubhouse model unique and worth replicating across the country.
