It feels like the wild west right now with AI. I have tennis friends dropping their latest match scores into ChatGPT to determine if they will get bumped up next USTA season. My kids talk to Alexa like she is their encyclopedia, DJ, weather reporter and sharing her preferences for favorite colors and sports teams as if she is their playmate. Our marketing team is using AI to generate personalized at scale, recommend website and 3rd party content to boost our GEO, build custom product demos, and target high intent contacts with 1:1 ads. But there is a flip side to all the data that is being collected by AI and risks to individuals and businesses. 📈 By 2027, more than 40% of AI-related data breaches will be caused by the improper use of (Gen)AI across borders. 📒 Gartner's Hype Cycle for Privacy underscores the evolving landscape of data privacy, emphasizing that these lapses are no longer solely regulatory issues but encompass broader risks impacting a brand's reputation and revenue. I never understand why companies go out of their way to ignore user privacy requests. If anything, honoring them builds trust, while disregarding them only fuels frustration. Imagine, some businesses even hide opt-out pages or continue serving targeted ads after users have opted out—all at a time when 86% of Americans say they’re more concerned about privacy than the economy. That is a direct hit to customer loyalty. The better path is clear: embed privacy into products from the start, be transparent about how data is used, and collect only what’s truly needed. Techniques like federated learning or differential privacy prove that innovation and privacy can coexist. With global regulations like the EU’s AI Act threatening fines of up to 6% of revenue, ignoring privacy is bad business. Respecting privacy is a competitive advantage. I'm looking forward to this chat with Alex Cash, Melissa M. Reeve, Anthony Coppedge, and Adam Eisler on Navigating the chaos of consent, compliance and customer trust in an AI world during the MarTech Conference later this month.

“As we share more of our digital ‘selves’ with AI assistants, we feel empowered. However, the depth of the data that we share creates new privacy and legal questions. How secure is our data? And who else can access – or demand access – to our data?” https://lnkd.in/eA-b3FPi

🚨 Claude Privacy Update – Effective Sept 28 Claude will start using your chats to train its AI models by default (toggle set to ON). If you were prompted with the dialog and hit “Not Now”, you’ll see a message in Privacy settings saying “Review and accept updates to the Consumer Terms and Privacy Policy...” with a Review button. You must click Review to actually make your choice. Why it matters: ✅ Opt-in: Chats kept for 5 years and used for training ❌ Opt-out: Chats delete after 30 days ⏳ Forward-only: Your choice applies going forward. How to check/update: 1. Go to Settings under your profile 2. Open Privacy 3. Click Review, choose ON or OFF, then Accept Bottom line: Don’t let a missed click decide your data policy for the next five years. 📌 Sources linked in the comments.

Data Privacy & Governance in the AI Era > 🔏 When “Share” means “publish to the world.” Nearly 300 k Grok chatbot conversations—including medical queries and password advice—were indexed by Google due to the platform’s share feature. Users were never clearly told that sharing would make chats public. On the enterprise side, Microsoft is rolling out admin controls to restrict who can create org‑wide sharing links for Copilot agents, with general availability expected mid‑September. DarkGPT’s Take: AI platforms love shipping features before they’ve considered the privacy fallout; your private chat about a medical condition could be tomorrow’s search‑engine result. Governance is not an optional add‑on; it’s the baseline. Pro Tip: Treat any “share” feature as public until proven otherwise. In enterprise settings, use RBAC to control who can spin up AI agents and share them. Advocate for clearer consent and transparency from vendors—because “oops” isn’t a privacy policy. #ThinkB4UShare #AIPrivacy #SecureAI #DarkGPT #MrCIA
