WHAT'S INSIDE:

  • A logistics twist on what’s driving the e-mobility boom (spoiler: it’s not just cars)
  • How battery tech is leveling up
  • A hybrid truck you’ll want to Google

DRIVERLESS CARS ARE OLD NEWS

Think e-mobility is just about cars? Think again. We’ve entered a new era of mobility, but it’s not just about what we drive – it’s about how everything moves: groceries by bike, parcels by drone, freight by autonomous truck. It's changing our mindsets, sparking creativity, breeding new business models, and reshaping how we live and work.

And here's the wild part: it's already happening. Over a million fully driverless passenger trips take place every month in the US and China. Drones are making deliveries. Ports and warehouses are more automated than ever – in fact, DHL has deployed over 7,500 robots across its global network, and more than 90% of its warehouses feature at least one automated solution – making logistics faster, smarter, and more efficient.

Lukas Neckermann wrote The Mobility Revolution a decade ago – and predicted much of this. He told Delivered why it’s now a reality, and what’s still around the corner.

Bonus: Agility. Electrification. Connectivity. Sustainability. See how it all comes together in DHL’s Auto Mobility (R)evolution Hub – where global experts and logistics leaders share what’s really changing.

DID YOU KNOW?

New Energy is one of DHL Group’s key growth sectors under Strategy 2030. That means we’re not just shipping tomorrow’s technology – we’re building the logistics backbone for it. From EVs and batteries to wind, solar, hydrogen and grid infrastructure, DHL is developing end-to-end logistics for eight fast-growing segments of the global energy transition.

WHY THE EV BOOM HINGES ON BATTERIES

Driverless cars, drones, e-bikes – none of it works without one thing: battery tech. It’s the silent force powering the mobility (r)evolution.

While most of the world focuses on what moves, we’re keeping an eye on how it moves. New battery chemistries like LFP (Lithium Iron Phosphate) and sodium-ion are making EVs cheaper, safer, and longer-lasting. Charging times are dropping from hours to minutes. And behind it all, global supply chains reengineered to move these hazardous components safely across continents.

Turns out, moving batteries at scale isn’t exactly plug and play.

It comes with safety considerations, regulations, and logistical complexity — and DHL’s global battery logistics network is built to handle it all. Read more on DHL's Battery Logistics hub.

DHL SHIPPED…WHAT?!

For every Formula E race, DHL ships over 380 tons of gear: race cars, spare parts, tech kits, pit equipment, and the full broadcast setup.

THE HYBRID TRUCK BUILT FOR TODAY

DHL and Swedish truckmaker Scania co-developed and patented an Extended Range Electric Vehicle (EREV) – an electric truck with a fuel-powered backup generator. Think EV with a fuel-powered safety net. It’s built for long-distance routes and can bridge gaps in charging infrastructure, with the generator extending the truck's range up to 800 kilometers.

Want to geek out on the details? Read how the EREV tackles one of logistics' toughest EV problems on Delivered.

DHL Group CEO Tobias Meyer spotlighted the EREV pilot in a recent LinkedIn post and urged policymakers to back solutions that work today, not just ideal ones for tomorrow.

After many years of working with this company, choosing them (despide probably the highest prices on the market) because of their reputation of security and fast delivery, DHL has lost the half of our very important and urgent package, shipped from Tbilisi to Paris. Out of 2 boxes, both arrived in Paris, paid custom fees for both but DHL only delivered one box, another is missing. The company is claiming that French Customs office did not release the other box (or lost) and don’t know where the box is. For 8 days now (since delivery) we have been following up in two countries to hear a clear answer from a very “reliable” freight company about what happened to our package and their only answer is “we don’t know” “we don’t have the information” “please wait til the end of the day or follow up tomorrow”. The Global freight company is blaming everything on the customs office and does not have a representative at the customs to inquire about the above mentioned package. Packages get lost, we get it, it’s the attitude and the lack of action from your side that’s very unfortunate and unprofessional.

How does a package get here faster from the continent of Africa then it does across town? And absolutely no customer service. I can't call, text, email or chat with a human being. This will definitely slow down my international buying. #DHLIsAwful #DHLIsThePits #DHLIsAggravating
