Introduction
- Hi, and welcome to CFI's Construction Finance Fundamentals course. I'm Kathy Poettcker, I'll be your instructor. Understanding the real estate development process is crucial for any lender, so you can analyze projects more critically and make more effective capital allocation decisions on behalf of your firm. In this course, we will explore the different phases of the real estate development process to enable you to easily recognize the different stages of a project. Next, we'll delve into the construction phase, specifically, to give you a deep understanding of how construction fits into the overall project development, and therefore align with a construction lending assignment with many third parties engaged by developers to undertake a new project. We will also identify the key market players and discuss where they fit within the various phases and components of a project. Next, we'll look at a typical due diligence checklist where we will discuss the various reports, specifically, how and why the particular reports are used. Many of these reports are prepared by qualified third parties. As such, this is an important, often more objective component of underwriting any deal. We'll spend some time looking at the different forms of construction contracts and discuss the advantages and or disadvantages from the developer and construction contractor perspectives. Finally, we'll look at different types of building construction forms and how each form may be aligned with particular asset types. Throughout this course, you'll be watching video lectures and participating in interactive exercises. At the end of the course, you will take a qualified assessment to test what you have learned. This is a required course in CFI's Commercial Real Estate Specialist bundle. We have a lot of interesting material to cover. Let's get started.
