Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and qualify robust processes for defense-grade steel forgings, ensuring first article compliance and integrating NDT methods (UT including PAUT/TOFD, MT) for validation.
- Lead FAI, process validations, NDT inspections, and hands-on defect troubleshooting to deliver compliant products.
- Use CpK/PpK, SPC, MSA, Gage R&R, and RCCA tools (8D, 5-Why) with software (Minitab, Excel, R-Shiny) for process capability, stability, and data-driven improvements.
- Leverage metal processing expertise (heat treating, chemical coatings, NDT) for ferrous/non-ferrous/super alloys to meet defense specs.
- Serve as quality/NDT liaison for customers/suppliers, overseeing audits, validations, and surveillance of NDT-critical parts.
- Own NDT written practice (SNT-TC-1A/NAS410), certify Level I/II personnel, and author/approve procedures/technique sheets/work instructions to ASTM/ASME Section V.
- Select NDT methods/acceptance criteria for large caliber components, review indications,
- Lead NDT method development/qualification, including trials, destructive correlations, POD studies, and integration with Factory OS for traceability/SPC.
- Specify/procure/qualify NDT equipment, standards, calibration blocks; establish performance checks and maintain records.
- Prepare/execute quality/NDT plans for PPAP, FAIR, inspections, audits, and certifications (e.g., NADCAP).
Education: Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Metallurgy, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or related field. Advanced degrees or certifications (e.g., ASQ Certified Quality Engineer, Six Sigma Black Belt) preferred.
Experience: 7-10+ years in quality/process engineering management in manufacturing with
metalworking (CNC, forging, casting); 5+ years NDT with 2+ years as Level III/Responsible
Level III in heavy manufacturing/defense/aerospace/oil & gas.
Advantageous:
automotive/aerospace/defense experience, including FAI and NDT in energetics/munitions.
Technical Skills: CpK/PPK, SPC, MSA, RCCA (8D, 5-Why), Gage R&R, Minitab, R-Shiny;
metalworking (forging dies, casting molds, CNC), GD&T, APQP, PPAP, FMEA; NDT expertise inUT (phased array)/MT for thick sections/complex geometries, ASME Section V/ASTM
standards, procedure authoring, technique development, destructive correlations, digital data integration into ERP/CMMS/eQMS.
Leadership/Work Style: Hands-on leader; team builder thriving under pressure, with track record in training programs, personnel certification, compliance sustainment, and NADCAP/customer audit leadership.
Soft Skills: Sharp communicator; proactive problem-solver, coach/mentor; drawing reading, GD&T, cross-functional coordination with metallurgy/manufacturing.
Physical Requirements: Stand, walk, lift 50 lbs in gritty shop with heat/noise; U.S.
citizenship/permanent residency, ability to obtain/maintain DoD security clearance.
NDT Certification: Current ASNT Level III in Ultrasonic Testing (UT) and Magnetic Particle
Testing (MT); expertise in inspecting thick sections/complex geometries via UT/phased array.
Preferred Qualifications: Defense standards knowledge (MIL-STD, ITAR). Expertise in additional
NDT (PT, ET, RT/DR) for validation. Six Sigma Black Belt or ASQ Certified Manufacturing
Engineer (CMfgE). Familiarity with reliability/TPM for inspection readiness/uptime. Proficiency
with CAD/CAM (SolidWorks, AutoCAD), statistical tools (Minitab), ERP systems. Experience
creating/selecting calibration blocks for heavy-wall/complex features.
Work Environment: You’ll fight on the shop floor in Dallas, with occasional office time and travel for process validations, NDT audits, or customer ops.
