Legrand has an exciting opportunity for a Mechanical Engineering Supervisor to join the Data Power and Control Team in Canonsburg, PA (Hybrid position). The Engineering Supervisor provides technical and managerial leadership to a team of various technical roles. Utilizes available resources to achieve the Engineering Manager’s goals regarding research, project management, product development, new product introductions, professional development, and CSR.



What Will You Do?

  • Supervise the daily activities of the team and manage their deliverables
  • Assigns priorities and workload for their team of engineers, designers, and technicians to meet project objectives
  • Conduct performance assessments and goal setting with the team
  • Maintain budgeted headcount through collaboration with HR
  • Create an enjoyable and productive working environment for the team
  • Utilize and continuously improve the engineering failure analysis process
  • Identifies and coordinates the implementation of new policies, procedures, or processes
  • Ensures that documentation conforms to company standards
  • Use a systematic, analytically-based approach to concepting, designing, and testing
  • Manage multiple NPI projects utilizing Starline’s project management process
  • Provide project management support to the team’s technical leads as they manage their projects
  • Instruct the work of external contract engineering and drafting resources
  • Write Engineering Specifications based on Marketing requirements
  • Determine system reliability and design or select components to achieve the required product performance
  • Define and implement rigorous verification and validation test plans
  • Lead DFMEAs, design reviews, and project status meetings
  • Supervise the creation of technical documentation, such as drawings, operations and maintenance manuals, and installation instructions, in support of new product introductions
  • Partner with Production, Quality, and Purchasing staff to ensure product manufacturability
  • Collaborate with certification laboratories such as UL, Intertek (ETL), and other various international agencies
  • Assist team members with innovative design concepts and system architectures
  • Create mentoring relationships with other Engineers
  • Direct and help with testing, verifying product performance, system integration, and compliance with applicable standards.



Education: BS in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related discipline.


Experience:

  • A minimum of 7 years of experience in product development.
  • Two years of experience with direct supervision or leading teams.


Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:

  • Advanced experience with integrated system design, 3D modeling, GD&T, DFM, material selection, and manufacturing processes.
  • Working knowledge of applicable agency standards.
  • Exceptional organizational, time management, communications, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Advanced knowledge of project management processes and principles.
  • Project Management Professional Certification (preferred).
  • Software tools: Microsoft 365, Smartsheet, Autodesk Inventor/Vault
  • Advanced knowledge of the design and application of low voltage power distribution equipment.
  • Experience with sheet metal, extrusions, injection molded plastics, and fabricated products.
  • Ability to lead a team and work collaboratively with others.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes and quality standards.
  • Aptitude for mechanical product design optimized for medium to high volume manufacturing.
  • Advanced experience with 3D modeling and assemblies in a CAD environment.
  • Prioritizes own work to meet organizational objectives.
  • Self-motivated and able to work with little guidance in a team environment.
  • Practical understanding of design for manufacturability and automation.
  • The performance of this position may occasionally require exposure to the manufacturing areas where under certain areas require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses and mandatory hearing protection.
  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to lift up and carry to 25 pounds.


Ability to travel domestically and internationally as required up to 10% of the time.
