Position Overview
We’re seeking a proactive and experienced In-house Attorney to lead all legal functions across our fast-growing, multi-state beauty and retail business. This role will serve as a strategic advisor to executive leadership and collaborate closely with key departments including HR Counsel, Operations, Product, and Real Estate. The ideal candidate brings expertise in California employment law, wage and hour law, and class action defense, with a proven ability to navigate the complexities of a high growth, service driven business.
Responsibilities
Provide expert guidance as Labor Counsel on multi-state employment law, with a focus on California wage + hour law, worker classification, and leave policies.
Ensure labor law compliance, workplace compliance, and adherence to state and federal employment law.
Partner with HR on employee relations attorney matters, including workplace investigations, disciplinary action guidance, termination guidance, and HR policy development.
Monitor and assess legal developments in labor and employment attorney practice areas including employment, privacy, advertising, and related fields to identify potential business impacts.
Ensure compliance with FDA, FTC, OSHA, ADA, and state cosmetology board requirements.
Draft, review, and negotiate commercial agreements, including leases, vendor contracts, marketing/influencer agreements, and service partnerships.
Manage pre-litigation matters, subpoenas, and relationships with external counsel.
Oversee corporate governance, entity filings, and broader risk and compliance frameworks
Protect intellectual property, reviewing brand, marketing, and advertising claims for legal accuracy.
Lead and oversee outside counsel and external legal projects.
Requirements
J.D. from an accredited law school; active bar membership in good standing.
5+ years of legal experience, including time in both a law firm and in-house role.
Expertise in employment law, labor compliance, contracts, and real estate law.
Proven success advising multi-unit , client focus business such as retail, wellness, or hospitality.
Strong communication Ability to translate complex legal issues into practical guidance and advisement.
Experience managing employment law matters across multiple states, with California required.
Prior experience supporting retail or service-based companies is highly preferred.

The Pay Range For This Role Is
120,000 - 140,000 USD per year(Corporate Office)
