Overview
The mission of the City of Boston Assessing Department is to accurately collect data, assess property at its full and fair cash value, and provide prompt and courteous service to the public. The Assessing Department is a leader in municipal valuation and seeks to maintain that status by attracting talented experience to our core staffing.
Under the direction of the Director of the Executive Support Unit, the Support Manager will assist the Director, manage the executive support staff, manage the administration of abatement application process, and manage the internal and external constituent communications.
Responsibilities
Boston Residency Required
Union/Salary Plan/Grade: AFSCME/MM1-6
Hours per week: 35, Monday – Friday, 9:00am – 5:00 pm

Under the direction of the Director of the Executive Support Unit, the Support Manager will assist the Director, manage the executive support staff, manage the administration of abatement application process, and manage the internal and external constituent communications.
Responsibilities
- Supervise staff.
- Oversee and assist with day-to-day and year-round document processing.
- Respond to constituent inquiries as needed.
- Manage the annual administration of abatement application process.
- Maintain and manage department messaging materials.
- Work closely with Executive leadership on addressing departmental programs, policies, and procedures regarding correspondence and constituent inquiries.
- A Bachelor’s degree in business administration or public administration is preferred.
- Accuracy and attention to detail.
- Professional knowledge of assessing practices particularly in abatement and personal exemption law and procedures a plus.
- Exceptional oral and written communication skills and the ability to interact effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
- Knowledge of MA Department of Revenue requirements and departmental standards preferred.
- Ability to exercise good judgment and problem solving as required by the job.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office, and Google Suite a plus.
