The Education Coordinator is responsible for the teaching, staffing, scheduling, planning, design, implementation, and operation of all education and recreation programs outreach events, science camps, and projects associated with the Wetlands Center. Position requires an acceptable level of comfort in handling live animals in education programs (i.e. snakes, alligators, and other small animals).
Duties
Responsible for the planning, design, implementation and operation of all education and recreation programs and projects.
Teaches outreach and educational programs, including school and community programs, outreach events, and camps.
Schedules interns and volunteers to teach during outreach and educational programs, outreach events, and camps.
Assists with development of educational and recreational programs and project budgets.
Assists with Wetlands Center administration activities.
Assists with planning and design of educational exhibits and displays and associated educational interpretative materials.
Performs personnel related duties including, hiring, training, coaching, supervising and disciplining.
Performs all other job related duties as assigned.
Required
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or institution in Education, Biology, Environmental Science, or a related field.
Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record (must obtain TX driver’s license within 90 days).
OR
An equivalent combination of education, experience, certification and/or licenses sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.
Preferred
One year of experience in Biology, Environmental Science, Teaching, or a related field.
Bilingual in English/Spanish.
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
Knowledge of biology or environmental science fundamentals, wildlife natural history and habitats, teaching, and computers. Ability to get along appropriately with co-workers and the public. Enthusiasm and talent for outreach and working cooperatively with a variety of people and organizations. Ability to motivate and influence others to achieve goals. Passion for wetlands education and conservation. Comfort in handling live animals and using animals in educational presentations.
