We are looking for a Claims Director for a specialty insurance company in NYC. Position is hybrid - 3 days in the office. This is a contract position (3+ months). The position will responsible for reviewing and and overseeing various types of claims including but not limited to NY construction, casualty, professional lines, cyber, etc. to ensure accuracy, compliance, and efficiency in claims processing. This role will evaluate claims to ensure that claims are adjudicated according to internal policies, regulatory standards, and industry best practices. You will identify trends, discrepancies, and areas for improvement while recommending corrective actions to enhance quality and reduce risk.
Key Responsibilities:
Evaluate and audit complex specialty P&C claims to ensure accuracy, compliance, and efficiency.
Lead strategic initiatives across the claims function, aligned with organizational goals.
Manage and review high-severity and litigated claims, providing expert recommendations.
Collaborate cross-functionally with underwriting, actuarial, legal, and finance teams
Perform audits of claims to verify payment accuracy, proper documentation, and compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements
Evaluate claim handling procedures and identify processing errors or deviations
Collaborate with claims teams and compliance personnel to address audit findings and support continuous improvement efforts
Monitor claims data to detect recurring issues, risks, or inefficiencies
Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business, Insurance, Risk Management, or a related field preferred
Experience: 10+ years of experience auditing or processing insurance claims, ideally with a broad background in P&C (casualty, professional lines, etc)
Skills:
Strong analytical, investigative, and problem-solving skills
Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel)
Clear and concise communication skills (written and verbal)
Ability to manage deadlines and work independently
