Project Overview

We are launching Project Melanite, a pilot initiative focused on computer vision (CV) workflows in construction. The goal is to explore how AI can automate construction takeoffs — interpreting blueprints to estimate materials and costs. By reducing manual effort, this work aims to make cost estimation faster, more accurate, and less error-prone.

Role

We are seeking an advisor who can read construction blueprints and provide short-term input and feedback as we scope and define the project. Advisors will help researchers understand industry workflows and provide guidance on tasks such as:

• Symbol counting and classification
• Segmentation and annotation of blueprints
• Best practices in construction takeoffs and cost estimation

Commitment

• Initial advisory work: 30 minutes to 2 hours
• Flexible, remote participation

Compensation

• $50 per hour for advisory work
