About our client
NoScrubs is building the fastest laundry delivery service in the U.S. — and they need a City Manager to launch and run San Francisco, CA.
This is a rare startup ops role where the hire will be running a full market like it’s their own business: hiring, building, growing, fixing. As the City Manager, this person will report directly to the CEO and shape how the company expands nationally. You’ll have full ownership of San Francisco—from launching new locations to building local partnerships and ensuring customers fall in love with the NoScrubs experience.
The ideal candidate will thrive if energized by ambiguity, able to quickly prioritize, move fast, and be obsessed with making things work better every day. Major hustle, hard work, and creativity will be expected to improve operations and customer service in San Francisco in preparation for expanding nationally. (Google “Earnest Shackleton job posting” for context.)
Abou the role
The City Manager will lead all aspects of the San Francisco market (with support from the rest of the team). This is the first expansion market, so the company expects someone capable of managing ambiguity and prioritizing effectively to run the market efficiently. This role reports to the CEO. As with any early-stage startup, there will be many additional responsibilities. Hustle, hard work, and creativity will be required to improve operations and customer service in San Francisco in preparation for national expansion.
Compensation will be significantly equity-weighted. Health benefits and free laundry service are included.
Values & Qualitative:
Customer Love: staying customer obsessed, anticipating customer needs, and listening attentively to every customer signal will take the company far
Touch Grass: no one is above any task at the company
Ownership & Bias to Action: there is far too much to do for people to wait for assignments. Proactively identifying and taking on projects is paramount to execute fast. Mistakes of commission are acceptable (most things are two-way doors), but mistakes of omission are not ideal
Who They’re Looking For
You’ve likely worked at a startup or scrappy team where speed, ambiguity, and doing-whatever-it-takes were the norm. Maybe you’ve launched new markets, built teams, or solved messy ops problems from scratch. You’re not afraid of leadership — in fact, you lean into it. You’ll effectively be the CEO of the San Francisco market. They especially love folks who bring:
Preferred qualities include:
Startup experience – experience building with limited resources
Leadership chops – formal or informal leadership of people or projects with a track record of thriving under ownership
Delivery/logistics/gig economy background – bonus if experience includes companies like Instacart, DoorDash, Uber, Favor, Shipt, Lyft, or Gopuff
4–10 years of experience – though achievements matter more than a résumé
Core responsibilities:
Scrubber onboarding and management – maintain the pool of Scrubbers, provide feedback, and improve the Scrubber app
Location partnerships – visit and onboard laundry location partners, improve operations for optimal service
Growth tactics and hustle – identify local communities, businesses, and events in San Francisco for partnerships and visibility
Logistics – integrate delivery and robotics partners into NoScrubs’ operating model
Customer Service – manage customer outreach, investigate order issues, and conduct root cause analysis
Proactive project identification and ownership – drive operational improvements, enhance customer experience, and build foundations for national expansion
